Anyone Having This Problem With Rear View Mirrors?

I just bought a 2002 Avalanche Z71 with 28K miles. I have noticed that the black plastic portion of the back of the rear view mirrors is peeling horribly (looking like lots of tiny rock chips in the black plastic).

Anyone else that has had their AV for a while experiencing this?? It is not extremely noticeable at first, but once you do notice it, it looks really bad. Seems like something worthy of dealership replacement.

I don't have this problem - but if yours is a new Av it is time to visit the dealer!

Since your profile says you have an LPM Av, the black part is the housing and door attachment area, not the colored insert. You state that you have 28k in mileage: my suggestion to you is get to a dealer before 36k rolls by and you lose any chance at a warranty repair.

Welcome to the club, and start moddin' >:D

Hey--Very useful information for everyone to note...

We took the AV into the dealer in Auburn, WA for peeling issue on the mirrors and for three other things. The dealer indicated they have seen this problem quite frequently on the '02 AV's and they termed it "delamination of the plastic." They ordered new rear view mirrors, along with the black plastic piece below where the windshild wipers attach, which was also deliminating!!

We also had condensation in one headlight and both fog lights, which they also agreed to replace!

Our AV has 28,000 miles, so I would suggest that you keep an eye on these parts as your AV's get some age/miles on them and get these parts changed at the first sign of a problem!!
