I'm close, very close, to becoming an AV owner. (It will be sad to part with the '72 3/4 Ton  ; seriously), but anyway, the specific 1500 2WD I'm looking at has an April, 2002 build date. I've read several posts under the "Problems Forum" where the build month/yr was thought to be responsible for certain problems... Anyone hear of anything particular with April, 2002? ??? Barring any negative input from CAFCNA, I may pick it up this week. Thanks! (And what a great site this is!)

Build dates before 10/01 have had more serious problems than those built after 10/01 (and I have the survey to back up that statement). WITH THAT SAID - overall the Avalanche is average for build quality according to the latest JD Power report. With that said go buy that 04/02 Avalanche!

mine is an april build and so far no real problems yet but some minor inconveinances:

had a second gear shudder but has seemed to have cured itself

have a drive line clunk but they say that is normal for the 4 wheel drive.

seemed like the electronic climate control was a little cool in cold weather. The weather is hot now so i will have to wait until next winter to be sure.

The cladding on the rear passenger door is pulling away at the top and you can see the double sided tape pulling apart. i had it fixed last week under warranty and it is already pulling apart again a week later. I am not sure if the piece was not molded correctly when manufactured or it there is some other problem with it.

Other than my daughter wrecking it and my av being in the shop for a month I have had no other problems.

I think it is the finest vehicle I have ever owned

Im am extremely happy with my 2500.. Born 09/01. Just do a thorough inspection on the vehicle before you bring it home. You won't be dissapointed.

Sorry I can't help with experience b/c I haven't bought mine either, but this part of your inquiry sure seems to be a trusting endorsement of this wonderful site! There are some fine owners here and I too will be relying heavily on their experiences prior to purchase. Hope ya'll don't feel too used!

Anyway, my point is I would trust the group if I were in your shoes too. I wish you well in your purchase.

Hello All,
I have an April 2002 build date.. I looked at the cladding. Coming loose at the same location. Other then that, just one minor rattle coming from the passenger side door trim.

Thanks for all the comments!
If anyone's interested, I put up a posting - which runs on much longer than I thought it would - under the 'Chevrolet Avalanche Zone' Forum today (6/30), under the heading: 'Just bought my AV!'
