Are My Feet Too Big? SERIOUS PROBLEM

I learned today that the accelerator and the brake pedal are very close together. This is how I realized: I was slowing for a large speed bump in a parking lot, when the truck suddenly surged forward and jumped the speed bump, much to my chagrin. I realized that when I pivoted my foot from the gas to the brake, and then pressed the brake, my foot also partially covered the accelerator. Has anybody else experienced this??? I think this is a serious safety concern with the Av. If I pick my foot up off the floor and move it to the brake, this does not happen. But when I simply pivot my foot and leave my heel in the same place, I wind up with my foot on both pedals at the same time. I have big feet (size 13), but so do alot of people. In my 99 Mustang, the brake pedal is very small - the size of a normal clutch pedal. I guess that is why Ford did that, because I don't have this problem in my Stang.

Size 12 here - and I've driven my Av in Sorrells (heavy winter boots for those of you in southern climates) and US Government issue genuine authentic combat boots and have had no problems. Want to drive a car with the pedal close together try an older Nissan Altima - had one as a rental once and I sent that thing lurching forward at least five times in a week...

I think it may just be a matter of getting used to a new brake/accel set up. I haven't had a prob with a size 14 but my did the same thing you mentioned. She freaked out a woke me up at the same time. It'll get better with time.

I ought to have this problem big time - I wear 8 EEEE shoes.

But I don't. As others have mentioned, I think its just a matter of getting used to it.

Probably just a one-time thing caused by a temporary brain-fart.

I haven't had any problem with 12EE.

Previously owned a 1998 Suburban and really had to watch it when I wore my White's boots with Airbob soles. The White's are wonderful snow boots for cold-weather hunting and they lapped the two pedals.

Have had no problem using the White's boots in the Avalanche.

The only problem I have is that I tend to only use the left side of the gas pedel which would make it seem like they are close.....This is my own problem and I just need to get used to it......size 10 here.. :)

Size 14 here. I keep my right foot lined up pointing to 12 o'clock in front of the brake pedal and pivot it heel to toe over to gas pedal (I guess about 2 o'clock or maybe 2:15). I keep in shape for this method by constantly training and conditioning. I am doing it right now ... heel to toe ... 12 to 2 ... heel to toe ... 12 to 2 ;D

I've had this happen numerous times in rental cars while traveling. I can say for sure that there are several MUCH worse cars in this regard. With a 13EEE I figure it just goes with the territory. Happened once or twice with the Av. As goo suggests, I moved my heel over more toward the brake pedal and haven't had the problem since. ;D ;D

Size 12 here. No problem with brake & gas pedal. Somehow though I just use the bottom edge of the gas pedal and have accidentally slipped off the pedal when I needed to accelerate.

I have done the same thing also. I usually have my foot on an angle with only part of it on the gas. To have my foot directly over it seems uncomfortable

Size 13 here - no problems with the Av. I have had similar problems with my stick-shift S10. Come to a stop and wonder why the engine's racing - get your foot off the gas stupid! Being a manual though, the clutch saved me from anything more serious.
