A friend of mine has the 6.0L, which means that he has the autoride suspension.  He wants to lift it using the Rancho 4" suspension lift with the adjustable RS9000XL shocks.  My question is:  is using these shocks overkill or better put, REDUNDANT?  I know nothing about the autoride suspension, but is it ok for offroading?  Should he just do away with it?  Any advice is appreciated.

Also, what exactly does the autoride system consist of?  What differs between it and the normal 4X4 suspension or Z71 suspension?

I am not to sure myself on the auto ride but Iam sure someone that does will chime in soon.I dont think there will be a problem with the shocks as long as there the size factored in with the lift kit.Good luck

forget the lift question, he can figure that out.  but id really like to know what the autoride consists of and how exactly it works.

Google.

"Standard on LTZ, this suspension automatically varies the amount of shock damping rate on a continual 20-millisecond basis by monitoring road surface, speed, gas and brake pedals, steering angle, and wheel height conditions to maximize handling and comfort. Also, a rear self-leveling feature helps maintain the rear suspension level with the front during heavy trailering or fully loaded conditions."

yeah, i know what it does, but how does it do it.  ive read that.  i want an explanation from someone who knows cars and has this on their av.  give me details.  and what is different on this system than the regular 4wheel drive package without autoride?

Well it has special shocks.

must be electronically controlled with magnetic fluid is my best guess

Rears have built in valving to jack up rear when it squats too much

what more do you want to know?  the computer side that adjusts the dampening?

Brain will be in the BCM more then likely...

IE body computer... but could be in Engine computer...

If you remove them shocks I bet it sets off some idiot light hehehe
