Hey all,,,

I found this place that makes items like Brush Guards and Taillight protectors for a bunch of trucks including the Avalanche ... Here's the site:

http://www.dealsofsteel.com/

They have a brush guard for the Av that is only $299 with Free Shipping ! Here's a pic:

I saw them on Ebay...doesn't appear bad for the price.

but...do we know anybody that's had one for 1+ years.

FSGUY,,,

They have a 3 year warranty, and do a multi stage powder coating ... I don't know, but I would think if you keep it waxed, it should be fine ... Plus, they have the warranty like all the others ... I might give one a try ...

FYI, the ebay auction when they had it listed in the beginning, the Buy It Now price was higher than their web price ...

Plus it's not modular, but one piece ... So they even cover the truck freight ... That's a pretty good deal ... WAAG has a one piece unit, but it's like $50 more than the modular (3 piece) and shipping is insane ... I think I may try one out ... They also do a few things different than on the WAAG ... I am not fond of the way the WAAG mounts entirely ... I like the looks of it ...

this looks better, than my home made special, i did not tuck mine in close enough, and the mount was hard to make!!

You get what you pay for and the photo looks like installed on a Saturn or Subaru. If you like the looks- well you will be happy. They do not personally appeal to me to put on a $40 tousand plus truck. You asked for comments- here is a candid reply. One man's opinion.

FYI, I ordered a set of black nerf bars and taillight grills from this place on Sunday night.
Total was $109 + $89 = $198, plus about $50 shipping.

They should be here May 5th. Will let you all know how the deal turns out.

I sent them an email today asking them a few ?'s about this brush gaurd. I'm not to familiar with brush gaurds....will a wench attach to any kind of brush gaurd or do you have to have a specific kind of brush gaurd? I'm pretty sure I will end up buying this....cant beat the price!

Ummm.... I hope you mean a winch... I think a wench might scream if you strap her to the brush guard.. ;D

I like the looks and the price is good. I can't tell from the photo, but do you lose the tow hooks?

Okay, the UPS guy just dropped off the nerf bars and the taillight guards from www.dealsofsteel.com.

First impressions: both boxes are HEAVY! ?So heavy that the nerf bars' box is broken open on both ends. ?One end of each bar has some pretty tough paper on it, but that's NOT the end that touches (or has been dragged on) the ground. ?I can't tell without taking them out of the plastic if there are any major scratches.

Next: Taillight guards appear to be fine, except no instructions! ?Hmm, looks like only two screws, And I'm pretty handy with building PC's, so I *think* I can handle this. ?I open the taligate, remove the two screws holding the taillight on, and try to fit the guard over the light...no go. ?One of the metal standoffs on the guard is welded and/or bent too far inward, so I muscle it out a little. ?Both of the standoffs were farily far off, you would think someone would have noticed that before they coated and shipped 'em. ?Still not fitting. ?I noticed a little "clip" that fits underneath the other side of the guard. ?Nothing I do seems to get that clip over the far edge of the light. ?And then I notice: the size of the guard on just the rear-facing end is simply too small, the width of the taillight is too big, even if I got the clip to fit on the other side. ?These don't appear to be made for the Av, or have been warped WAY too much to ever fit one.

Now I'm nervous, the nerf bars are still in the garage. ?I look through the box and find...mounting instructions! ?Yea! ?

Uh-oh, they say they are for a 2002. ?Anybody know of the mounting holes for the 2002 & 2003 Av's are in exactly the same places? ?I'm hoping I don't have to send this stuff back!

There is no copy of my order in either box, so I can't figure out if they shipped what they thought was the correct parts. ?The website indicates on both the nerfs and guards that they fit both the '02 & '03 models. ?Anybody else have any problems with any other brands not fitting between the two model years?

I'll be contacting the company to see what can be done, and again, I'll keep you guys informed.

Ron

i dont know if its just me but i really like the factory gm brush gaurd because i think it looks more natural like it should be like that at the dealership but the waage one looks really nice. Look at jnspurs for instance it looks really nice more so if the power bar is painted black ?>:D

just to give you a heads up...\

I've seen prices on the GM brush guard ranging from $380. + $2,000,000 shipping from GMdirect... (OK I admit.. a slight hyperbole) to 509.00 plus labor to install.

Most dealer parts depts are willing to work with you...Do a little research and then throw a price or two at them. You should be able to talk them down to jobber
a few bucks over 400.00 carry out. I saved up and ordered the brush guard and assist steps (under 500.00) at the same time. They were eager to work with me.
700. for the GM nerf bars are killer though.. the westin ovals are under 5 bills...

I agree w/ Biggie... the GM brush guard looks/fits best... and at that price... it's hard to beat

I don't care to much for grill gaurds unless the truck is lifted, think it makes the truck look small. But the GM gaurd does look pretty nice. WAAG style feels too big on the front.

If anyone is likes the look of the Westin oval bars, Manik makes a similar bar. They are round, but aren't that U shape. They are tubes that angle in at either end. I have them and I'll try to post a pic of them tomorrow.

IRT Nerf bars.

I have had the ICI nerf bars mentioned on the Deal of steel website on my Silverado for over 8 years and they have held up great. I was skepticle when I saw the price, but I have been very pleased. The step is very well done. If I had been able to find them again I would have ordered for the AV.
I may still do that.

So far, looks like dealsofsteel.com is working out fine. I got a return UPS shipping label from them today. And they confirmed that the nerfs should fit the 2003. Gonna ship the taillight guards back to them tomorrow, I just have this awful feeling that I am just not doing something right to get them on the truck. But it sure looks like they are bent.

Boy, I do feel better now!

Well, did the tail light guards fit???

No, they didnt' fit. I'm still waiting to hear from them, I shipped the guards back about a week ago. They should just be getting them about now, so if they are going to replace them, I'd expect another week or so until replacements get here.

Too bad they don't have a chrome or stainless one!
They DO have a StainlessSteel grill guard. Check this pic from their page.

Only difference is that it's a 3-piece (instead of the 1-piece) and it doesn't look like they are throwing in free shipping on it. Also, doesn't look like they have a model specific for the Avalanche in their pull-down yet, but they might have the part if you call them.

Great find on the resource and the good prices 11H. Let us know if you get anything from them and how it works out.

Does anyone have any comments on the dealsofsteel grill guard. I'm thinking about putting one on. Anyone have one on...pics would help too. Comments too!!! Thanks in advance.
