WHAT A MAJOR BUMMER! JUST COMING HOME ABOUT 1:45 AM AND 2 DEER JUMPED INTO THE ROAD RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. ROAD WAS SLIGHTLY SNOWY/ICY AND I MANAGED TO GET IN BETWEEN THEM BUT 1 OF THEM RAN RIGHT INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY AV, DENTING THE FRONT FENDER AND KNOCKING OFF CLADDING ALL DOWN THE SIDE. AND TO THINK I WORK SO HARD TO PROTECT THEM D--M DEER ALL YEAR LONG! :7: (AS A GAME WARDEN) SHOULD BE THANKFUL AS I HAD MY WIFE & 2 KIDS IN THE AV (SLEEPING) AND GOT SIDEWAYS AT 55 MPH,(3 BACK AND FORTH BEFORE I GOT IT STRAIGHTENED OUT) AND MY OLDER SON JUST BUMPED HIS HEAD ON THE WINDOW. (NOTHING SERIOUS) HAVE HAD THE AV SINCE 03/02 AND ONLY HAD 5031 MILES ON IT AT IMPACT. (ONLY USE IT FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS CAUSE I DIDN'T WANT NO WALMART CARTS RAMMING IT IN THE SIDE.) CUSSED AND SWORE ON THE CELL PHONE TO THE EMERGENCY DISPATCH OPERATOR. I ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE WHEN IT HAPPENS TO THEM THAT IT'S ONLY SHEET METAL AND PLASTIC BUT IT'S DIFFERENT WHEN IT'S MY AV! I THINK I'M GONNA HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD CRY :C:...ONLY MY 2ND NEW VEHICLE EVER. THE TROOPER THAT WROTE THE REPORT FOR ME FELT BADLY AS SHE HAS AN AV ALSO! AND TO THINK I PASSED ON ALL THE DEER I HAD CHANCES ON THIS YEAR WHILE HUNTING...WELL...SEASONS STILL OPEN TILL JAN 1ST >:D... MIGHT HAVE TO GO OUT AND GET EVEN. ;)

What a bummer. I am glad that no one was hurt. without ABS brakes you may just have rolled  I love the AV: solid, dependable, and taking out its share of deer this year. I prefer my venison to die real suddenly from lead poisoning. >:D

Glad you and your family are doing allright and no one was hurt (other than the AV). It does seem like alot of deer are attracted to the AV this winter.

Blackhawh,

That's my theory on hunting, GET THEM, before they get you.

If that deer was safely packed away in your freezer, he couldn't have damaged you or someone elses Av.

Just my theory.

Deer #1: Hey Rudolph! Here comes one of them change for a buck trucks.

Deer #2: Oh yeah. I hate those things. What should we do?

Deer#1: Oh look, it even has them yellow lights that are on all the time! Don't you hate those? I mean, not only do we have to endure the "deer in the headlights look" image for the last many years, but now we gotta stare at them funny lights too.

Deer #2:Hey, that plastic don't look so tough. Lets ram it? Geez, look at that driver--he looks like he waxes his truck everyday. I'm sure he won't mind a dent here and there.

Deer #1: Ok, I'll meet you on the other side. You jump first.

Deer #2: No--you jump first. I jumped first the last time!Or did you forget the Dodge Ram? Man, I hate that name even more! The POS even had a picture of our grandpappy on the hood!

Deer #1: Tell you what. Lets jump at the same time. OK, here we go...one ....two.... :)

I'm glad you and the family are OK.

Good luck with the AV!

blackhawk, maybe you can find a mod idea, now that you have to change cladding.

hey did you keep the old piece??remember, the avalanche logo, going down the door clad, save it!!

you might be able to use some pieces from the clad, for other mods, too.

many years ago two friends were coming back, to dallas from la grange, and hit a cow, with their 69 z-28.
it cut off the cows head and it landed in the passengers lap, so much blood, highway patrol, thought every body was dead
z-28 totaled.

at least, you got a good story, without any scars, just dents!!

Blackhawk,

About 2 months ago, I got a deer goin' 55mph, 1/2mile from home, on my way to work.

called the boss to tell him I was goin' to be late :(

when I got to work, everyone wanted to know how the Av was. nobody asked of I was hurt or not ???

they were all relieved when they found out I was driving the old'89 Sable "work car" ;D

life can be good! (y)

So far I have been able to avoid running down any large rumenids, knock on wood. Some of the calls have been pretty close however.

I got a kick out of the attached cartoon I was sent this seaason. ;D

Blackhawk, Sorry about the damage, damn deer. Every time I hear of somebody suffering damage due to a deer I think if I were to pop a couple of those furry animals (legally of course) maybe it would save some anger of fellow Avers. Glad to hear every one is ok!!!!

Haven't whacked a [live] deer yet. Avoided the few opportunities. I'd think that by now the run-into-traffic gene would have evolved out of the deer population. Nothing more suicidal than a rabbit, tho.

Are more deer attracted to the AVB or are there more AVs actually getting used out where there are deer?

Glad everyone's okay.. (y)

I had a ver similar experience a few weeks ago, but I snuck through.

I was cruising back to my house around 1 am... drowsy... I round a corner and see a deer on the side of the road ahead.

I see it... recognise it was a deer... but somwhere along the thought process, no bells or whistles go off.

The deer jumps in front of me, and I'm jolted out of my daze. I get on the brakes, the rear squirms... The deer darts to my left, out of the way, and I cut to the right.

As I am about to pass where the deer was standing (still hard on the brakes), I look to my right out the corner of the windshield and passenger window, and from the shine of the headlights, catch a glimpse of another looking to follow it's buddy. I let off the brakes, and squirt the gas to get out of this ones way. I prepared to hear a bump out back as I assumed it'd run right into me... but nothing. This one musta been smarter...

I lightly held on the brakes after I passed to see if I could see where it went, but couldn't.
