i had a lot of snow a few days ago and all the salt that is on the road gets on av and i keep have to get it a car wash :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8:

When I lived in snowy areas like South Dakota and Massachusetts I had a designated day once a week to wash my vehicle no matter what. In South Dakota you could go to an all indoor car wash and they would dry the jams down so your doors didn't freeze shut. Was more complicated in Massachusetts. My advice is pick a day, wash it no matter what UNLESS the outside temp is below 10 degrees. You're asking for trouble otherwise with all the seals on the Av!

it hasn't gotten very cold here but last year I had no problem washing my when it was -10 degrees outside, nothing ever froze. I suppose I should tell you that my Av sleeps in an area of the house that is 60 degrees after all she is a part of the family.  Radiant heated concrete is coming soon. >:D >:D

it is probably a pain, but it will pay off in the long run. i lived in Upstate New York for about 18 months i believe. in that short time the salt ate through the clear coat on the rims. they looked like crap. so keep up the washing. it will be to your benefit. :B:

Somebody say salt? I actually put the running boards back on for the winter in hopes they'd keep a little of the spray off down below.

Look at the ice build-up behind the front wheel; this after only two hours of driving into snow for the first time...

Is it just me or are trucks salt magnets?

...Should have gone with red...I should have gone with red; everyone said black and I said red; how did this happen?

I've taken this thing to the power washers a few times and the dirt/salt just loves to stick to it; now I just bring a book and get in line at the drive throu wash; and 10 minutes later the rear quarters have frozen leak lines...you can see one above in front of the Z71 logo. At least in the summer the leaks evaporate and just leave marks you can wipe off...

Yo...engineering... Self Cleaning Ovens... Self Cleaning Irons... Where's my self-cleaning truck?

That's a great idea. Around here, in the winter, cars are always salty. Even though we can go a few weeks without snow, they use so much salt, that you can't stay clean. Anytime the roads get wet (snow, rain, even runoff from melting snow) the water that gets kicked up is so salty, the truck turns grey. Even if the roads are dry, just driving on it can kick up clouds of dry salt.

Generally, the truck always needs a bath in the winter. However, I keep an eye on the weather reports, and if the weather looks dicey, I won't wash it, because I don't want it to get dirty right away and "waste" the wash. What that means is that the truck is always dirty, because there's never a clear cut time to wash it.

I finally break down and wash it when the salt gets really thick and fluffy. That's way to late and can't be good.

I need to take your advice and just bite the bullet and wash it once a week, whether it needs it or not. ;)

Growing up in Minnesota, I saw my share of vehicles falling to the ravages of salt. It was a sad site. You could have a vehicle less than 3 years old that was forming rust from the salt. I don't know if they still do salt the roads there but man it was bad.

Out in OR they use sand. I think it is mixed with ash but am not sure. I don't get to see a whole bunch of snow in the valley.

There is a snow advisory for the mountains tonight though. Maybe I can play in the snow on the next run!

jamesf what are you doing posting a pic of a dirty AV?!? ;) I have the same, black Z71, in WI. Went off roading Saturday. Honey went out of town Sunday and said, 'You gotta wash your AV today' So I went out and washed it and did a few other things, and when he got home he said 'You forgot to wash the AV' So depressing! I want that summer shimmering blackness back!

I know black is the worst color when it's dirty, but it's the best color when it's clean.
