My wife and I went to the Pine Groove Fire Departments 38th annual auction. Its held to raise funds for new fire equipment and imrovments needed to the station.
It is a nice drive over the mountains to the little town. During the rest of the year, you just might drive past the town and not know it. At the highways edge there is little more than the fire department and a gas station.
We got there early to give our selves time to walk the grounds and check out what was up for auction. Just about everything ~ including several kitchen sinks. I moitored the two auciotns outside while Tina monitored the fast paced one inside. Somethings went for more than new and others didn't sell. There was a stack of 12-15 sailboards, with all the riggings and sails.... no one bid on them. You could have picked them all up for a single dollar. Not a dollar each but the whole pile for a buck!
I am thinking about coming back next year to do some ebay buying!
At the days end, we bought a ton of stuff. The booth you pay at is right next to where you back up to load your stuff. I backed up and got ready to load. The guy checking receipts's first words to me were: "So is this one of those fancy trucks that changes?" ...
Well, I had the panels on and the seats up so I guess he was going to get to see the full change. So, I said - yep.
While going through the change, I noticed that several other guys were standing around watching. Not too close though. They were milling around about 20 feet back - almost like they didn't want anyone to see that they were curious, too.
I told him about the AV and how we take it hunting and use it for just about everything as I put more and more stuff into the AV. Even had to open the side storage to get out the tie down straps.
Of course they had setteld neat the bottom, meaning I took a bunch of stuff out to get to them. Two guys broke from the edge and came up to look into the side storage. They liked the idea that there were drain holes in them so you could use them as a cooler if you wanted.
It took a little bit of arranging and repositioning but we got it all loaded.
I got several nods and smiles from various people in the crowd.
It was time to make the trek back home with our new treasures.
In all the excitement, I forgot to get any photos. Sorry, here I am asking everyone else to get some during their adventures too. I will some on the next adventure (not to long until that either).
Why two mowers?I know someone is wondering this. Tina asked me the same thing. the electric mower was up for auction first. I got it for $7.50. Since I have never owned an electric mower I thought getting a back up wouldn't hurt. So when the lawn-boy came up, I bid on it and got it for $2. eck of a deal I think.
