Well today I took my AV in to the dealer to get an alignment because I had a 2" lift added, and I wanted it done before traveling to SA to join the monthly GTG at Sonic.

They aligned it and noted to me that the mileage was 2783, and asked if I wanted an Oil Change since it was close and the trip to SA would put me over 3000.

I said yes and they started to change the oil. The guy changing the oil put it on the lift and immediately went and got the Service Advisor.

There was what appeared to be an Oil Leak from the Front Diff. They took it off the lift and engaged 4Hi and a horrendous grinding noise came out of the front Diff.

Turns out that when the PDI'ed the vehicle they didn't fill DIFF all the way up and when I used 4x4 twice in a pasture I had effectively burnt it up, causing the clicking noise that i heard but thought it was mud in a CV boot or something since it went away.

The ordered parts and will have it back to me Monday. Luckily I work for a school and am off, but I just wanted to share my experience.

Thanks,
Billy Clay

Is the dealer/GM paying for it even though you added the lift? Also, if the oil light didn't come on thlling you it is time to change the oil why did they suggest an oil change? I always get between 4k and 5k for the change oil light (I change it at 3k but can't reset the light until it comes on).

Thats cool.
I got free lifetime oil changes when I bought my AV. They routinely found little things and repaired them. Leaky seals and loose(off roading) bolts and stuff . Why not change oil, 3k is good for me now

Chameleon, you can manually reset the oil light at anytime. You do not need to wait for it to come on. Some people prefer to change at 3000 regardless if it needs it or not. For me, I do it every 5000 since I drive an average of 130 highway miles to and from work each day.

I would think that if they missed the diff lube level in the PDI Chevy or the dealer will be paying for it.

I have the oil changed every 3000 miles. The dealer usually sends some coupon out for a 19.95 oil change right about the time I need it. ;D It's usually $25 and they are usually pretty quick so I rather just take it there.
