Av Oil Pressure...???

hey owners,

i noticed that the oil pressure on my Av is usually around 60+ and on cold start and accel, it tends to touch 80 ?!?!?!?

that starts to bother me, but luckily GM didnt put a red indicator around the 80psi area, or else it would drive me nuts ???

are you guys' oil pressure hitting 80 as well? next time you go for a spin, take a peek, but dont forget to keep you eye on the road as well!

thanks!

Pressure on the 5.3 runs very high - although extended stays at 80 might warrant a call to the dealer, running between 60 to 80 is normal.

ON MINE IT RUNS ABOUT 60 I THOUGHT THIS WAS HIGH TOO! ??? ??? ??? ??? fixed typo

Mine is fron 60-80 as well.

FWIW, my other car runs up to 100 psi at times (gauge is calibrated to show 120). All depends on what the system was designed for.

My Av seems to consistently run at about 60, I've never seen it hit as high as 80 before..

Mine runs above 60 all the time. Gets close to 80 when cold but probably hangs around 65-75 90% of the time when not idling.

Mine also runs about 60 when warmed up, but following my first oil change I have seen it up around 80 when it is first started when cold.

Mine is very consistant around 60. Changes surprising little with temperature as compared to other vehicles that I've had. I'd guess a superior pressure regulation system as compared to older vehicles.

I wouldn't worry about the oil pressure unless you don't have any. ?I've worked on quite a few different GM vehicles and 60-80 is good. ?The reason the oil pressure is higher when the engine is cold is due to the oil being thicker. Once the engine warms up, the oil thins and you have less pressure. ?The oil pump doesn't run off the distributor (we don't have a moving one anyway). ?It has a much better system. ?;D

whew, thanks for the response fellas...

i too noticed this as well...i thought it was because i went synthetic.

Mine runs at 60psi at running rpms...dips a little when setting and warmed up.

I used Valvoline motor oil for the first 25K and the pressure was 45-55 and now I switched to Pennzoil and it's closer to 60-65. Same type oil and everything. Standard 5W-30 with the gasoline engine star on the package.

Next time you are stomping on that peddle watch that needle rise! ?My avalanche likes to hit 80 PSI even when warm, when I am flooring it! ?I think that it is the design of the 5.3, because I have had the pleasure of driving a 2003 silverado, with the 5.3 and it does the same thing!

Oil pressure, 03 AV built Nov 4 2002. 5.3 liter Stock everything. No mods yet. Factory oil. Cold it runs around 50 idle and 55 takeoff throttle. Hot it runs 40 idle and 50 takeoff throttle.
