I've been researching recently, and seen some avalanches, and for an 8000 pound truck this thing can really pick up. I remember the first time I witnessed it was in traffic on the way to the airport, this pewter Avalanche decides to switch lanes and the rear end immediately dumps down as the thing launches. I was like :eek: . I didnt think the 5.3 could propel the beast so easily. For those into avalanche speed, look at this guy's avalanche.

0-60 in 4.5! So many mods.... :B:

So really 4.5 seconds to 60? 1/4 in the 12's? I'd need to see some slips for proof, He must have had a GREAT run down the track for that.

Bah dont know why I said 8000 pounds. Anyway, yeah I want to know if that run was in 4wd or 2wd...thats hella fast for an Avy.

The only way you're going to motivate a 5.3 Vortec Avalanche to go 0 to 6 in under 5 seconds is with JATO or RATO...

I've noticed the acceleration as beiong one of the less predictable aspects of this truck. It seems like sometimes I get hard on the gas and it just sort of strains to go faster without the tranny kicking down and other times I just ease the throttle down and it takes off like a rocket.

I don't know if it's the torque management or just the torque curve of the motor or the transmission shift points but it's like nothing I've ever owned.

Also, the other possibility is that I'm just not yet used to an auto tranny. I've had five and six speeds in my last few vehicles, both pwersonal and company, so maybe it's just the juicebox that makes it seems odd to me. ???

ok..how many think this guy is full of crap???
<rant on>
If the "custom" drivetrain was really in there wouldn't he have pics showing?? Where is the pic of the puffer?? Notice all the other pics are generic out of magazines and websites??

578est hp??? Hey Butch whats yours up to now?? I think it is kinda hard to believe he is cranking 600 ponies out of the 5.3 with just a blower!! Unless he is on the squeeze even then it has to be close to a 200 shot which would propel the crank into the pavement.... UNLESS he really does have a build engine probably a bored 6.0 or a 408cu with the Radix and a 150 shot... that I could start and I say start lightly believe. I know guys over at LS1 with 6.0 and turbos putting out close to 20 pounds of boost PLUS juice and they are finally breaking the 600 mark at the tires and running low 10.20's and that with ALOT of work.

IMHO hes bullshitting!!!
<rant off>

As far as our trucks go I think we have decent motivation under our hoods.... just add some minor bolt ons and a programmer and we scare the bejesus out people on the highway.

I've just done the 3 mods...Air-Exhaust-Programer and I smoke Jap Scrap all the time as long as they only have minor stuff done, basic kids in their first rides.
I figure i'm pushing 345hp by what the disclaimer on the packages say. That puts me in the mood to yell to the dodge I just smoked "was that a Hemi I just passed?"

here is our performance mododerator BUTCH's thread on his time in the 12's:

12.97 secs....

And he has had a ton of work done.....
