Avalanche TV Commercial

The AV is not a new vehicle..but the ads are getting old.
I didn't mind the AV "change for a buck" televison commercial. Some can't stand it. Why is the ad still running with the statement, "Introducing the Chevy Avalanche."
The vehicle won the Truck of the Year award. What's to introduce? Someone needs to update this ad..am I nuts? :2:

Hey Sun.....Believe it or not  I have never seen this commercial. Have heard sooooo much about it,,,,,but still waiting :6:

Does anyone know if it is in a video format somewhere on the internet? :0:

Thanks...... :B:

I've looked all over the net for the commercial...
I know I saw it somewhere online in the past. Can anybody verify this? Anyone know where it is?

That commercial USED to be in the Avalanche section on chevy.com for the 2002 models. I haven't seen it in a while though.

If someone does "find" the advert on the net somewhere, please post a link here. Otherwise I'll never get to see it. :(

The commercial is upsetting to some. A bespectacled young man looking to get change for a parking meter on what appears to be a quiet city street in a cold climate , desolate area (maybe Alaska) sees a cocky fella pull up and jump out of a rather dirty black AV. He asks for change for a dollar. The smart-aleck immediately goes back to the AV, does the midgate transition, then returns and with a smirk grabs the dollar from the man and walks off. I don't mind the commercial, it's filmed in almost a black/white setting...But why after all of this time is Chevy still saying, "Introducing the new Chevy Av?"

I think someone mentioned that the New Sheridan, the building in the background was in Colorado.

I have seen the change for a buck ad showing up a lot more in the past few weeks. I agree it is time for a new ad.

Steel - you got my interest - I will have to watch the ad closer and try to figure out if the building is indeed in CO. :)

I found the Avalanche commercials... well, sort-of...

If you go here and then search for chevy avalanche you will find links to three commercials, including the change for a buck one. (Unfortunately, it won't let me post a link to the search results page, you'll have to do the search yourself.)

HOWEVER, in order to actually watch the commercial, you must register, AND agree to pay them $2 per month with paypal.

It used to be on Chevy's site, but is no more. I wonder if the club would be able to get permission to put it in our resources section. On second thought, that would probably kill our remaining bandwidth and cause even more problems. Maybe Chevy still has it somewhere and we could get a link to it? ???

Is this something that someone in an official club capacity could consider investigating?

In surfing around and trying to find something about the ads I found these comments by some internet columnist dude, I thought that those of you who have seen the ads and do own an avalanche may have some thoughts about his opinions, this post was dated October 2001.

I am going to post his opinions uncut, but the server may change a few words... so here goes.

From Sunsword.com

Been watching a little TV recently, and there are several commercials that really annoy the heck outta me (imagine that). Now, beyond the fact that they ARE commercials, I find them particularly offensive because they are BAD advertising and someone got paid lots of money to make them.

First off are a couple of advertisments for the Chevy Avalanche that show what not very nice people the people that own them are.

In the first commercial, two guys are driving their Avalanche in the desert (apparently having lots of fun) when the guy in the passenger seat says "Let's switch". The driver stops and they both get out, but the driver has something else in mind! He illustrates the lame gimmick where the vehicle "transforms" from a Ford Sportrack into a Buick Skylark (or whatever). The driver then gets back in and leers at his crestfallen friend. "Good idea." He says. The message? People who own Avalanches are sarcastic bastards.

The second Crapalanche ad is even more annoying. A guy parks his Assalanche on the street and feeds the parking meter. A person who parked just in front holds out a dollar and asks "Change?" He obviously needs to feed the meter. The jerk Avalanche owner says "Sure!" and then transforms his vehicle from a Toyota Tundra into a Honda Accord. Once done, he snatches the dollar says thanks and walks off.

What did this commercial tell me? People who own or want the Chevy Avalanche are real jerks and were probably given go-bots instead of transformers for X-mas.

Well... It's not THE commercial that everyone seems to recognize, however, it seems to be the only one left on the web. It's the same concept in each commercial though.

or go to:

and scroll down to the Chevy Avalanche Commercial link. Be advised, I had to D/L it to my desktop to view it, it came down like a snail even with a 20mb ATM internet connection.

WOW, believe it or not, thats the first time I've seen that one. I've seen change for a buck a few times recently but I usually catch just the end.

Did you notice the mod on that truck? DRLs and fogs on at the same time, with no other lights.

Gee... my imagination's pretty good!

Grrrr. those stupid idiots! Sarcastic bastards? Jerks? That's not what I see here!
Well like all assembled groups I'm sure we are just representative of the population... I'm sure that some of us are, or have been stupid, a jerk, a bastard etc etc I know I have. ? But I like to think that's the rare and not the norm. ?I don't know where this guy gets off inferring that all av drivers are like this always. ?

I'm sure that most of us love the av because it's different and that in itself will attract the ire of others. ?Down here we call it the tall poppy syndrome meaning that it will always make good ammo for an under-achiever to fire at us, or cut you back down to fit in with everybody else. ?:p

The New Sheridan Hotel is located in Telluride, Colorado. By the way, there are no parking meters in front of the hotel.

hmmm...I don't watch much TV but the ad(s) run frequently. I will try to grab one using my TIVO and convert it to MPEG for all of you. Should not be hard since they play all the time.

now I say "they" since I think there is more than one got change commercial. I think I recall at least 3 different ones. All with the same result....

Anybody else see more than one version of the ads? ???

:B:
Phantom Floater,
You can own that for FREE - just stop by your dealer and get a copy of the 2003 Avalanche catalog. The video you see introduces the DVD that's secured on the inside last page...........
BTW - if you notice that side shot with the door nameplate in full view, realize that that couldn't be shot with a WBH model......... >:D

Thanks Chief. I for the life of me couldn't remember which town. ;D

Here's a cool little video of an AV driving through the desert.
Give it time to load.
Some of the scenes in that clip look like the ones used in the opening of the "wanna switch?" commercial. Looks like they just took more of the file from that day of shooting and put it to different music.

In addition to the EXT commercial, I've seen at least three different Avalanche commercials. "Change for a buck" with the parking meter, "Wanna switch?" in the desert, and the street prophet as seen in Rake's link earlier in this thread.

However, I've also seen "shortened" versions of the first two ads. The full ads are 30 seconds, but I've seen them cut down to 15 or even 10 seconds. Other then shortening, I can't say I've seen other versions of these three.
