Hopefully this won't get moved to another area as I'm trying to get info from 2007 owners.

I'm looking to get the Pioneer AVIC D3 navigation unit but I am concerned with a few things.

- can I use the rear dvd as well as the earphones.
- can I watch a movie on the unit while moving.
- can I use my steering wheel controls.
- will my current XM subscription work with this unit.

Does anyone have this unit installed that can help me?

Thank you.

I can answer a couple of the questions but I can't address the RSE stuff.

With the correct module installed you can use the steering wheel controls with the D3.  You cannot use the factory XM module with the D3 however.  The factory unit and D3 cannot communicate with one another so you'd need Pio's unit.  If you have a pre-paid subscription for your current radio XM may very well allow you to transfer it to another radio ID, but that's a question only XM can answer.

As for the RSE stuff.. take a look at this manual for the PAC OS3Bose module, this may answer some of your questions.

Hi Digdug,

Lots of questions... my answers are theoretical because I have collected all of the components to install a Kenwood DDX6019 in my 2007 with RSE but haven't done the actual install yet:)  So take this with a grain of salt.

For adapters you need:
- Pac Audio OS-3 Adapter for Onstar and GMLan  ($150)
- Pac Audio SWI-PS Steering Wheel Adapter for Pioneer Head Units ($50)
- METRA 95-3305 Double Din Install Kit (i.e. faceplate) ($12)
- Pac Audio GMRVD Wire harness (unless you want to fabricate that harness) ($60)

The GMRVD wireharness is pricey so I'm planning on trying to make one.  You need this to hook up the video feeds and rear seat audio & video inputs.  It looks like it should be real easy to make.

Regarding your questions:
- can I use the rear dvd as well as the earphones.
Yes for the headphones and yes for the controls if you use the PAC OS3-BOSE with a steering wheel adapter.  The steering wheel RSE controls will mirror the streering wheel controls.  Note that IF you want to watch/listen to something in the front seat while a different thing is playing in the back, you need to make sure you have a dual zone HU.  The only thing I'm not sure about is what happens when you hit the source button on the RSE control.  I assume it will mirror the steering wheel control source (and change the front source) -- this is not factory behavior -- but if you have a dual zone HU, you can change sources using the remote or the HU.  The headphones should work w/o the steering wheel adapter -- they are off of the amp feeds.

- can I watch a movie on the unit while moving.
Yes if you disable the parking brake sensors that are required by law.  You may need to buy an adaptor for that for your HU or you may just be able to wire a loopback.

- can I use my steering wheel controls.
Yes but you need the PAC SWI-PS adaptor.

- will my current XM subscription work with this unit.
I don't know -- you would have to buy the XM module for the AVIC D3 and then try to contact XM to transfer the subscription over.  Note the XM Module is behind the dashboard and is a seperate unit from either the factory or AVIC D3 HU's.

Hope this helps.
