Back Of Back Seats Mod?

Has anyone considered making a panel cover for area between the folded down back seats and the still raised midgate? With the seats down and the midgate up, there is a big gaping trough in the back area near the midgate. I usually ride with my back seats folded down, and I use the back seat area to carry miscellaneous items. If I load my groceries in the back, then the plastic bag get wedged in the trough and get torn when I get them out. I just need one big flat area and not a nice flat area with a gaping trough in the back. I also worry, when I put heavier items on the folded seatback and they slid into the trough. Afraid that I might damage some of the seat mechanisms. Anyone else have this problem? Any good solutions.

Roy,

What you might try, is to get the Avalanche Seat Protector thingy, Put a piece of plywood in the back to cover the trough and then put the seat cover on to make everything look good.

JW,

I've got a "2nd Seat Cover" on order through VanDevere Buick. I talked with Dal Slabaugh, last week and I have an order coming in shortly. Hopefully, your suggestion will work out. I'll have to look at what measurements would be best for a board. I was hoping that someone else had maybe tried a mod of some type for the back seat trough. I guess I'm the only complainer. Thanks for the response.

The 2nd seat cover works well. I too was concerned about scratching the back seats when they are down. Definitely worth the extra bucks and looks cool with the AV lettering!

Yeah, Thats the Ticket!! No I really like mine, I usually ride with the midgate down too. (Easier to put the dog in).

Too bad you couldn't find like a black trough, cut it to fit and then invert it into the trucks trough.

We just pile the groceries and whatever on top of the 2nd seat liner and don't even notice the trough.

We love our 2nd seat cover. It has saved our seats three times now from pine tar of christmas trees. It is a must if you carry things with the midgate down.

Another bonus is that when you use an air matress to sleep in your av with the midgate down. The cover dramatically reduces the squeek of plastic on plastic.

I have been looking into getting a piece of gator board to place back there. It will be plastic so that if there is leakage onto it, it won't swell or otherwise get ruined. Being honeycombed plastic will mean min. weight. I will probably get some between 1/8" and 1/4" thick. Take 3 pieces and gule them together offestting the honeycombs. This should make it both stronger and stiffer. I know that the gator board does come in black so that will be the way I will be experimenting.

I also have the second seat cover. It is a great items.

While I typically don't like "styling" hard sharp items on the back of the second seat tend to scratch it. The cover protects it from that.

However, my dog thinks it is a little slippery. I used one of those no slip rug things.

I too drive with the rear seats down and installed the rear seat cover, really slick. nice finish and covers up all the stuff that was stuffed into those holes. rags and things, really cleans up the back seat area.

I have used the openings that you are talking about as a great place to stand up the half gallon milk containers when I have groceries back there. The containers fit perfectly. I just go with what is there.

I also have the rear seat cover, haven't used it yet.

Please excuse the :2: question, but whatdoes the 2nd seat cover, cover? Does it cover the flipped up seats, or does it just cover the folded down back?.... Just trying to picture whatit looks like, what is covered and what is not.

Here's what the back seat cover looks like installed. It covers up the back seats AFTER they have been folded down and are ready for the midgate to drop.

They're intended to protect the seats from cargo that you may be loading whether or not the midgate is down. Only problem with them is that they slide around on the back of the seats a bit, so it doesn't make a stable surface for a dog. Need to add a rug or mat on top of the covers for that. I used a Papasan cushion.

If anyone figures out a good material to attach to the back of the seats that will improve that surface traction and perhaps cover up the gap where hinges, etc. are exposed without getting in the way of the midgate please let me know.

Where did you buy this seat cover? About how much are they?

GM lists them for $50.00. I have one on order from Van Devere, (Dal Slabaugh--1-877-448-5451) for $39.20.
