I did a search and came up with no results my dad just bough a new 2003 Venture Van and it has the back up sensor it is the neatest thing I have ever seen I was wondering if there was any one who has put one on the Avalanche and what the cost was.

Hey there, I know of at least one AV that has one installed. I saw it at the dealership where i bought my AV. Almost bought that one but I think the sensor system added about $2000 to the price of the AV so i was scared away ;) But then again we all know about dealer markups so it's probably within our price range.

I emailed JP Customs last night about a system. He is supposed to be looking into putting a system together. I'm not at home right now so I don't know if Jason has answered yet. From what I have seen so far, Jason likes to simulate a factory install and that's what I want also.

Has anyone found a good system that is fairly inexpensive.

Thanks, James R.

Half-breed posted a link to a thread that has a lot of information: Back-up Warning Thread

If I recall correctly, that thread listed a few different systems, including one as low as $20. However, seems like the results are that you get what you pay for. (The $20 system was dissappointing.)

It's probably best if follow questions go to that thread in order to keep things together.

I had been ruminating over this concept for some time, and quite frankly was a little hesitant prior to forking over the dough to fully carry out the concept, but I did it, and am extremely satisfied with the results. :0: If you have the cash its worth every penny....The Reverse Cam has probably already been done, but if it hasn't here's how I did it. I purchased the Kenwood "eXcelon" DVD headunit with 'touchscreen' allowing for DVD video, GPS input, am/fm stereo, and aux inputs for video and audio. Yes I can watch DVD's while driving (illegal and I don't do it, but passengers can), yes I have touchscreen GPS which kicks arse! with the 3-D view, yes I have TV on it, yes I have an 80gB MP3 harddrive hooked up to it (NeoCarJukebox), and lastly, I have a Black and White infrared camera hooked up to it. If you go to below website you can see my pics. Basically the camera is an indoor/outdoor cam bought at your local 'spyshop' for around $250. It is a tube cam that has wires that go under the car and into the Kenwood receiver's video aux input (one wire input for video, and 1 wire for 12v power). I needed it to be somewhat 'stealth' (concealed, out of harms way), therefore I had CarToys mount it into my license plate (see website pics), and they bolted in a piece of sheet metal underneath the truck covering the exposed part of the tube camera (underneath the truck behind the license plate) so that noone can rip it off. The infrared aspect is very helpful at night when reversing. I know exactly what I'm about to run into, and depth perception is exact. No numbers, no LED's, no beeps to rely on, just a real visual image of car, child, animal, bicycle, wall, etc. right in front of me without cranking my head around. This has been a real thrill for those who see it for the first time. Its the most popular mod I've done, which surprises me, cause the bulk of my expenses were in the $2500 GPS and $2500 receiver. You could save big bucks by getting a $150 LCD screen and the cam itself without buying the Kenwood DVD/receiver. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to know exactly whats behind them, and wants to "watch your back" as your parked somewhere, or as a great rear view mirror on the highway. Its simply awesome!!!
Feel free to email me with any questions about this mod or other mods. OTHER MODS: I also added XM satellite radio-the best!!! thing ever invented since toilet paper hands down!!!! The JL Audio Power Amp (500/5) 5 channel amp is a spacesaver with pristine clean power to boot, the CLifford Matrix 2 alarm system with remote auto roll down windows is a source of great comfort, the ALpine EQ creates the most colorful spectrum of sound, the JL Audio Center console subwoofer will rattle your bowels at the expense of center console depth, the Infinity kappa Speakers with Tweeters mounted on the corners of the window pillars provide a perfect soundstage, The NeoCar Jukebox with 80gB harddrive is simply a mindblower with a capacity of 16 days of continuous music without a commercial break, but take away my reverse cam, and I'll be blind again. Enjoy the pics.......

AVTanked and Nople,

Sorry, I've been away from this thread for awhile, mainly because I discovered the thread "backup camera part 2":

http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?board=20;action=display;threadid=8959

Frankly, I believe reverse cameras are superior to audible sensors after having tried both (bmw reverse sensor). I highly recommend your reading the reverse cam threads and see how fast this is catching on as the way to go, and at the same time very affordable. These guys are pioneers of reverse cams, more than I've seen in any other forum, so check it out (still under Avy Accessories subtopic).
While I scrolled through the threads there, I found the perfect reverse cam system that is incredibly affordable, I've spoken with the guy personally and he knows his stuff! I had a problem with my cam system because it didn't have reverse image capability, no problem if you're using if to backup and see objects, but a big problem if you use it as a rear-view mirror like I do .....simple solution: buy a camera that has reverse image capability (but its not that easy buying the right camera (online) with the right specs, and alot of the affordable quality cams are sold on Taiwan or Korean websites (confusing in terms of communication and currency issues), After doing tons of research on this, and for the same price as one of the audible sensor systems, I highly recommend the system that is getting high ratings on the reverse cam thread: check out this link:

then check out his reverse cam pics at:

Essentially, this guy is an electrical engineer who designs these systems solely for the Avy (potentially other vehicles in the future). The price is around $310 and includes monitor (a display that snaps into your drivers side vanity mirror in the visor), a Sony color cam with wide angle view and something like 0.5 lux (translation: it sees better than you can in the dark without the need for infrared), reverse image capability- a must, and all the wiring and personal instructions for your particular setup, customized to your liking by a phonecall to this guy. I just bought mine, and am very satisfied with all the user reviews, the parts, and customer service with a true personal touch. I have no association, and no agenda other than to share with you what I think is a damn good deal after much webcrawling research in search of the perfect reverse parking system. For my needs, I will have the cam on at all times: you can place the cam in your licenseplate as I did, you can put it to the side as he did, you can even put in the bezel of your tailgate handle facing down at an angle as many others are doing. I also will have the image on both my Kenwood display as well as the visor display for quick viewing access. If you have any questions about my other mods feel free to email me as I have it in my profile now. reanime
