Bad day for an Avalanche

Big shock....

...another <insert explicative here> semi driver overtired and possibly drunk hitting a car and causing an accident....

:E:

sounds more to me like it was the av driver at fault...
Police say a man stopped his SUV in the right lane, shut if off, and turned off the headlights.

A semi truck traveling behind it couldn't stop in time, and rear-ended the SUV, sending them both into the ditch.

Ahh, okay. I read into it that he was pulled over in the shoulder. I've seen too many semi accidents on a weekly basis. (I also had the father of one college friend killed by a semi running a red light.)  I'm always under the opinion that semi drivers - while safe most of the time - are often pushed too hard and driven to be unsafe.

Not to play devils advocate but did anyone take into account he did it on purpose to commit suicide? It sounds to me that it a more viable option. because no one it their right mind would park in a lane of traffic at night and turn off their lights in less they wanted to get hit.

This is something I would no about. I spent my late teens and early twenties trying to do just that. Thank god I met my wife.

that had crossed my mind too...
people have tried stranger things

However... just being sleepy and disoriented would do it too....
or pull over to take a leak/ nap....  who knows

I almost got wiped all over the street by a semi today, My light turned green and the semi was coming the other way and while I was turning this semi makes the widest most unnecessary turn ever and he didn't have the right of way nearly drove me and other cars off the road and then it took off.

i speak from experience, truck drivers are driven to hard for the loads to get to a customer on time.almost all truck drivers are very safe people.we driver for a livin.that's our job.We dont get enough money out here for the miles we have to run. When we have to run,its usually disbatch that is making us run illeagle.Just so we can get that few extra miles on that weeks paycheck, and the company makes a little more money.A load is not worth your life or someone Else's.

but you get some people are complete jack@$$'s, Truck drivers included, who are completely belligerent to the truck drivers, and 4wheelers alike, out there.Just had an incident today.

guy would not let me over into the travel lane.the lane i was in was coming to a complete end, into an overpass support.the guy(in a brand new furd) didn't have anyone beside him,and i had my turn signal since i got on to the off ramp. needless to say i had to cut in front of him.it was either that,or hit and overpass support at 60+mph,with 44,000lbs in the trailer. What would you choose? then as he passes me,and gives me the bird.YOU BELIEVE THAT!!! Makes me want to  :8: :cuss: :beating: him.

Just a little advice to everyone.
1:if you see trucks slowing down, follow their lead.if they move out of a certain lane, more than likely there's an accident in that lane.
2:please don't pace beside us.if one of the tires goes, that's about 30lbs gator dropping moving and 65+mph.not even a tempered safety glass windshield will hold that back.and if a steer tire goes, the entire truck goes along with it.
3:please turn off your high beams.we have at least 2 mirrors on each door, and they don't dim.the main flat mirror alone is about 6" wide by 18"long.even at a 1/2 mile,we are getting blinded by the lights, either the highs or just miss adjusted lows.

Excellent advice!!

I think it cruel what many truck drivers are forced to endure, which then causes the unsafe conditions. I often drive the 60 and 10 freeways in southern california and am around dozens of trucks at a time. I figure they need to be given wide berth as they're trying to navigate 80,000 pounds of mass through tight traffic.

As for the tires - I've seen it more than once. A tire flies off a trailer in pieces and some idiot is less than a second behind the semi. Bam! Tire goes right into the front of the car and the car swerves off the road.
