BCM Reprogramming

I have a question in regards to the BCM...

In the service manual for the 03, it shows on Body Control Module that Connector 6, terminal A1 is for LiftGate Ajar Switch Signal for the Suburban/Tahoe.

I tested the lead and there is 12VDC... when I shorted the lead to ground, the voltage dropped to 0 as its suppose to, but the DIC did not show that error message of LiftGate Ajar as I was hoping for. So my assumption is that either the DIC or the BCM needs to be programmed for the ZW9 option.

How does one do this?

I wanted this circuit to work so that I could wire in a door switch sensor into the tailgate so that if the tailgate was left open and the AV is in gear, the DIC would prompt me with an error message.

If this is not an easy fix, I guess I'll just have to tap into one of the door sensor circuits... Too bad!

Installing a tailgate pin-switch would give you an indication on the instrument panel and also serve as a means to automatically turn on the bed cargo lights when you open the tailgate. This is a simple approach and an lot easier tap location as compared to the BCM.
Here is my version:

from this thread:Cargo Area Light Switch

Also another member, rod, has developed a kit that does this and a whole lot more in this thread: Remote Tailgate Lock

I like your alternative... However, If I can get the DIC to SAY LIFTGATE AJAR, then I would like to do this....
As for difficulty, 1 pin to BCM is not difficult...
But I still like yours....

I gather that he cargo bed light indicator on the IP Cluster is on, when the tailgate is not closed?

Exactly! On the 2002 Avy the warning light "Cargo Light ON" is a lot more obvious than on the 2003 Avy :cautious: .

Spoke with one of the Techs in the plant today, about this and he is sure that I just need to get the dealer to PROGRAM the BCM for the ZW9 option.....

Called a couple of GM dealers this afternoon.
1) said, should only be around $50.00 to $100.00 to program...
2) the other said, same price, but AFTER buying a new BCM... he stated that once its programmed, thats it!!! you can't reprogram with more options..

Is this true?

This raises an interesting topic in itself - what is the re-programming capability of the BCM, control of DRL's, lights, door locks, dinging sound, etc...

Wonder if we have one or more clever folks that could come up with the equivalent of LS1Edit for the BCM >:D
