Hey everyone. Just thought I'd let you know how the Avy does on the Beach in very loose sand conditions. I can describe the experience using 1 word. SWEET!!!! Man can that truck handle it. I brought the tires down to 22 pounds (5 pounds more then what i was told to use). The Avy was a beast. Nothing could stop it Thereis an area in the dunes that we can go and I was a bit scared at one point. 4 Wheel Low was the hero of the day. There was a Ford 350 4X4 with the double tires in the back that got stuck. He got stuck good. I guess those trucks are meant for pulling. Anyway I took some stills of my truck. I have to wait for the film to develop.
P.S. This was my test. I knew that if the Avy did well on these loose sandy conditions that it could handle anything!!!!.

sounds like fun! now where is a beach so I can go try that...

I envy you . . .

I know it's probably not a beach along the terms of what you are describing, but I'm looking forward to hitting the sand at Lake McConaughy, Nebraska this summer. I remember having a blast there some years ago in my Blazer, and am looking forward to seeing what the Av will do!

Let's see the pic's.

I wanted so bad to beach my Av in Delaware. But alas you need a surf fishing permit and you need to be actively fishing in order to stay on the beach. That was like putting candy in front of a baby and then saying NO! So close, yet so far......

The 8.1 engine is an awesome animal. I've been mudding a few times and the feel of that powerhouse is unbelieveable.

Glad you had a great time. Steve ;D

Hello Gentlemen, Pictures are on the way. I plan on finishing the roll and then posting them. I live on Long Island and the beach permit is also for surf fishing. Most people do fish. As long as you have the equiptment you'll be fine. I was very impressed. There was one spot that requires you to slow down and make a sharp left turn. Everyone was getting stuck. My girlfriend didn't want me to try it but you all know how the story goes. Anyway the avalanche did it in 4X4 Hi. I even had 22 pounds of air in my tires which is a lot more than what I should have had. II was a bit PO'd because I had just washed it and it was covered with dust froom top to bottom. Oh Well!!! ;D ;D ;D

I haven't had the opportunity to get on the sand yet with the AV....like midlife..had mentioned you need a beach permit to take the rigs out on the sand..down in Sandy Hook.....but I just simply have not had any time to do this......eventually I'll get around to going down..

You got it psung....exit 117 on the Garden State Parkway....there is actually a Coast Guard base down there I often visit...they still have some old ruins back from long long long time ago.....

Go north, young man! There should be some sandy beaches along the southern shores of Erie.

HA, and I thought the East River was polluted. ???

You all need to head up to western Michigan and go to Silver Lake Sand Dunes. All you need is an ORV sticker and pay a small fee for the day. I have not taken my Avy there yet, but had lots of fun in my jeep. Its great and it is right on Lake Michigan.

This is probably the best pic taken

Great topic! We are taking the AVy up to a military base in northern Michigan, It's mostly sandy HumVee trails. Having never done this sort of thing before, how should I handle the tires?

Drop the pressure when I get up there? What pressure if they are mostly fire trails? What if there are sandy hills to climb?

Thanks.....

Jasgot,
If it is pure sand you?re going to be driving through I suggest bringing the tires down to 16 - 18 PSI. If the terrain is hard dirt then I would leave the tires alone. Find out if there is an air hose otherwise bring a portable compressor. If there is an air hose sometimes they do not provide a nozzle. Buy one and bring it. You don't want to be doing any highway driving on 16 psi's.

I've beached my Av a few times already, also on Long Island, NY. Hey Powersurg, where on LI are you? I'm out in Suffolk Cty (Riverhead). Anyone else have problems with bringing home lots of sand and rocks? Seems like alot gets cought on the frame, skid plate etc...

AvMike8.1,
I filled up my driveway with half the beach. I think there are better skid plates out there. I live in Farmingville. You are the only other fellow Long Islander I am aware of. We need to get on our Regional Coordinator and establish a Meet. I would like to start meeting the people I am typing to.

power.....you're not that far away from me...I'm only 10 min..outside the city....if you guys ever get something going I wouldn't mind driving to meet everyone.... ;D

I saw something about a trip up to Bear Mountain that was in the works for our region. I don't know who the coordinator is. I know it's not me. Ha Ha. How would we go about finding all the people who are in our area? I am sure there is quite a few of us.

You guys are making me homesick
My wife is from Queens, I'm from L.I. and we used to go to Bear Mountain dating!
Well, we moved to California a few years ago, so while we like it here, (except there's NO good pizza in the whole state... :p) we sure would like to meet up with you guys for a drive in the mountains!
Anyway, have a great get-together.
Is the LIE still the same?
Wanna buy my snow shovel?

Long Island has changed a lot in 10 years especially east of Exit 55 of the LIE. It has been built up a lot. It is very commercial. They say its shopper?s paradise. If you can't buy it on L.I., you can't buy it anywhere. The cost of houses has skyrocketed. I am trying to buy a house and well got my truck instead. Ha Ha. No seriously for those who are starting out it is very difficult. Combined you and your wife have to make a 6 figure salary to live decently. I was a New York City Police Officer for 2 months and went back to computer programming. Long Islanders have become very materialistic at least those I know who are in their late 20's. The Hampton?s are still nice. So are Smiths Point, Jones Beach, and Robert Moses Beaches. If you click on my link below you will see my truck on Robert Moses. You should come back to visit. You'll either move back or never come back again.
