BFG All Terrains For 17" Wheels

GUEST
Not sure about anybody else, but I have had in the past these BFG All Terrain T/A tires, and these tires are the absolute best tires for on/off road everyday use. If anybody is interested, the P/N 57974 is for a LT285/70R17, which will mount right onto a AV and really make your truck look like a real off-road ass kickin' machine.

The tires are backordered right now, I have them on order for 201 USD each. I had these same tires for my 16" wheels on my older truck and they really did great. 40,000 miles and they were still runnin' smoooth and strong.

Figured I would pass the info for anybody wanting a good set of winter/off road tires to fit their stock 17" AV wheels.

Please post photos when you get them on. I would love to see how the fit in the wells and the overall look before dropping that much money for new rubber.

BTW - I love those tires. I had them on a couple different Jeeps in the past. They hold up really nicely and do very wellboth on and off road.

Those are larger than stock and probably require a computer adjustment to keep your Av operating as it was designed. It may not be enough to make a big difference???

I am curious to know if they affect performance, affect MPG or if they rub on anything.

I hope to make a change to after market 16" wheels with "meatier" tires having the same outside diameter as stock. But a little bit bigger would be nice.

I have these tires on order also, can't wait till they get here!! I had upgraded my Silverado Z-71 from 265/75/16 to 285/75/16 and did not notice any changes in the ABS or trans shifting, the speedo was of less than 2 mph around town and 3 mph on the highway (it will vary with the speed). I threw one of these tires on my AV when i first got it and it made a difference in how it looked. the taller section width was most noticable but won't be as big on the 17" rim. I still don't know if I am going to mount with white letters out or keep them black wall. I think leaving the sidewalls black won't draw the eye to the huge wheel well openings. Any suggestions/opinions?

I just ordered my new All Terrains last Thursday, the 5th of December. To my surprise, Sears called me today and said c'mon in, your tires are here. So much for being backordered. I guess Sears Auto Center has "pull" with BFG???

Well, I am very happy with the results. The tires look great, and the ride of my AV is sooo much nicer. It feels like a truck, go figure??

Old front fender height was 34-5/8"
New front fender height is 35-1/2"

Old rear fender height was 37-5/8"
New rear fender height is 38-1/2"

I gained an extra 7/8" ride height from putting the BFG All Terrain LT285/70/R17 rubbers on. What a difference a inch makes, I feel on top of the world now. Imagine when the lift goes on next year, look out!!!

No rubbing, no hitting, no noise, just a simple ol' tire change and you are cooking with fuel!! Everybody enjoy your new tires, I know I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. - Click on my new link below, it will take you to my picture posting website and you can see my AV with the stereo mods, JP Customs heated seats mods, new tires, flags.... Click below.

Has anyone have pictures with these tires on the AV yet? I can't wait for mine and want to see what it looks like! No word yet on when my tires will be in.

Can't show you BFG KO 17" tires but can show you my new 295/75/16 tires....and with RWL inside. Tires ride great and stand 33.5". I do not expect great performance from them in east Tx mud, but the '85 Jeep can take care of the serious stuff. After new wears off of AV might have to slap on a set of tires a little more aggressive. Centerline is to bring out their chrome #604 in a 16 x 8 in about two months so that sounds like the perfect wheel for some BFG M/T tires. Don't want to scratch them flames just yet though.

Happy Holidays!!!!

How you doing guys and gals.

i have a 6' fabtech suspension lift with 285/75/16 bfg a/t's with eagle 589's rims and they were great.

then my fiance didn't like the wheels and decided she wanted something new.

so we went out and bought some new set of wheels and tires.

we went out and bought some 18' chrome KMC-SS wheels with 325/60/18 Nitto Terra Grappler all terrain tires.

man these tires are great, on one wheel they had three big screws in them and still they haven't gone flat.

AXL,

Even 285/75/16s are probably going to require some simple modifications. We put the 295/75/16s on my truck so I could trive it to Dallas to leave at shop for lift, headers, etc. I had to be careful not to make very much of a turn as they would rub rather quickly. I am quite sure 285s would have also. I would suggest that anything over 31" high and 11.5" wide will be a candidate for rubbing. My vehicle is a 1500 Z71 so Z66 would probably have greater chance. 2500 series could possibly be a tad more forgiving.

I put 285/70/17 BFG AT's on my stock 02 Z71 on New Years Eve. Awesome tires!! Been through a couple snow storms with ease, been through similar conditions with stock tires and needed for 4wd, BFG tires went through in 2wd with ease. These things are quieter than the stocktires too. They give the AV a more aggresive look/stance, they help fill up the wheel well some. No problems hitting the iner fender when turnig or stuffing the tire/suspension up in the well. The ride is a little stiffer from the higher load range, and the high pressure I run (44 front, 42 rear). I don't think I will ever put anything else on the AV!! ;D

My first guess would be no, but you would have to take some measurements. If you have the 17" wheels with the 265/70 tires these will be a little easier to make. The BFG's dimensions are 32.7" tall, section width is 11.5". Find out thse measurements for the tires you have and divide the difference in two. Now take these figures and go out to your truck with a tape measure and add them to the appriate part of the tire to see if the new tires will rub in any place. The closest parts on mine are the plastic inner fender in the front and rear of the well when the tire is cranked in either direction. Be sure to leave some room for suspension travel.
