Big Block using oil.

I've got an '01 AV 2500 w/the Big Block. Love the truck. Love the motor. However, I am using about 2 qts of oil every 3K miles. Been to the dealer more times than I care to admit; complained to the service manager and to Chevy corporate but am told that it is "within specs". The oil conumption test was done and the service manger agreed that it's using too much oil, but he says Chevrolet told him to "return the truck to the customer and do nothing." :E: I see several others on theboard have had similar probs but they are 1500 AV's. Anyone here have a 2500? BTW, I have a '01 2500HD Silverado w/the same engine and it too uses oil. Should we have to just accept this?? ???

If it is any consolation the BigBlocks get better with age - less oil consumption, better mileage. It also seems that they respond better to tough use.

My $.02 and experience.

RCP,

I have a 2500 '02 also, I used no oil for the 1st 6000 miles, then it started to use a quart every 1100, double that if
I pulled my 20 ft car hauler. I did the oil consumption test at the dealer, went every other Friday on the way home from work to have
them check it, add if low and record the level. GM's stance will be 1 quart be 100 gallons of fuel, which isnt much in these 2500's.
I complained via email at www.GM.com, they gave me a case number and I told them who I was working with at the dealer.

They finally agreed that it was using more oil than it should. I could 1. Get a new motor, with a 12 month/12000 mile warranty, after than
my extended would pick up another issues, or 2. they refund what I paid for extended warranty.

The new motor has about 3000 miles on it, close to due for its first oil change. This motor oil pressure at all RPM levels is one check mark
higher, than the old motor. It still sounds like a diesel for 20 seconds at startup, I dont have the crank pulley squeak on this one yet as I did
on the 1st motor also.

I just rolled 40000 on the odometer also. I was patient with the service guys, they will get to know your face, and expect to see you if you do
the consumption test again. Good Luck, try to email at the GM web site, you have to search a little but there is a avenue to voice your concerns regarding your
problems.
