First of all id like to say what a great site you guys/gals have. Ive owned a f350 supercrew a few years now and am planning on getting an avalanche soon. The color im considering is black and was wondering how you guys liked yours as far as keeping clean? hot in summertime? more than usual. the one im looking at is wbh also.

Black is the sexiest color I think, but only when it's clean :C: Keeping it clean is key but here in KC it is very hard what with dust, rain, snow, etc. If you do not like washing your truck every week I would go with a pewter color as I have heard that it is a little better to keep up.

Bill, The black WBH is the best Avalanche made to date. It has the highest reliabilty rating and resale value over all other Avs.

Also KV magazine rated the black WBH Avalanche the best truck ever made.

The black WBH is never too hot and never too cold....always just right.

The special black paint only found on the WBH repels dirt, you'll never need to wash it. If it get a little dusty, just drive over 55 mph and it just blows right off. Note: Chevy had to stop making the SOMA Avs because the paint attracted dirt.

This black paint also makes you invisible to highway police at night if you drive with your lights off.

All in all you cannot beat a black WBH Avalanche.

I hope this answers your question.

I've owned a few black, and a few red trucks, and now a LPM Av. In the TX summer they're ALL hot! My Black '85 had such a beautiful finish that even dirty it looked better than a lot of clean ones. When you're sitting inside looking out across a dusty hood they all look dirty! I don't fully wash near as often as I just go rinse the dust off. And yes this LPM is much more forgiving. I can clean the tires and wheels without washing and it still looks great. With that said I'd buy another Black or DGM in a heartbeat! If they had one for the same price when I bought my WBH it'd be Black for sure. (y)

Great post king!

For as bad as black looks when dirty, it looks that much better when it is clean.

As for keeping it clean - do not drive on wet roads or when it is raining or snowing. Keep it waxed and use a California car duster and detail spray. When not driving, keep it covered and/or garaged.
Keeping it clean isn't so difficult.

When I have a choice, black is the only color for me. (y)

It's really no big deal. Mine only takes about five minutes to completely clean and detail.

I have the Dark char. and I have to agree with everyone above .... when it's dirty :D: ... when it's clean (y) ... and when it's clean and zanio is applied

I love black and have had many black cars and trucks. It was my color of choice for many years! BUT, now that I am fat and old, I do not wash my Avalanche near as often as I should. I live on a gravel drive. There is a gravel pit next door and behind me. There is a grain elevator that puts out a lot of dust just 1/4 mile away. All of this weighed heavly in my dicission to go with the light pewter when I bought my Z66. I still love to look at a good clean black one but remember all of the work to keep it looking that way. The LPM is MUCH more forgiving!

Every once in a while I look at my truck & say to myself, "Self, why DID you buy that black truck?"
Then a little wash & that Zaino shine reminds me everytime.

Once you go black, you never go back ;D

How many pewter owners have won the cleanest truck award at a GTG????

I had someone phase it best to me last year:
"owning a black vechile is a lifestyle chioce"
The more I thought about that the more it rang true.
It is a love hate thing NO QUESTION.

Zanio does help, but I only use z 5 not z2.

What frustrates the bejeebers out of me are the fine scratches that black shows, Zaino helps with those

I am planning to re-paint the truck this summer or next, it will be painted a fade away black/purple pearl with metalic flek(?)

I have a black 03 Z71. Love it!

That being said, I'll say what the others have said: black just gets dirty way too easy. If you love black, that means accepting this fact. However, when it is clean, no other color even compares to it, day or night!

I live in NM, which has dust out the wazoo, and I have a cat, which as any cat owner knows, pretty much precludes having a clean car for more than a few hours. Mine gets dirty just by looking at it, but I honestly couldn't see me having another color.

my 2 cents

Just got done washing all of the road salt off my black Av. I love the truck, but as you know ,The Kentucky road dept uses a lot of salt during the winter.
It's heck to keep clean, but it is worth it ;D :B:

I'm sure I would have but none of the GTG's I've been to gave out the award. >:D

Sure black is hot in the summer, but jeez, this is Texas and when it's 100+ outside it doesn't matter what color the truck is. The Av air conditioning works great and should keep you cool. Yeah, it's hard to keep clean and you'll be cussing all those dang sprinkler systems that drain on the street. :7: But let's face it, no color looks better than black when it is clean.

black is awesome when its clean, here in new olreans with rain and swamps, my could not stay clean, and i do not have the time to wash every day(cant stand for my truck to be dirty) so i purchased a car wash pass to keep it clean.

go to a place and they wash it as much as i want for one price, it may cost but i know my truck stays clean and always looks good.

go with black, its the best looking color for an avalanche imo.

My Wife gets a little ticked at me weaving down the street to miss the wet spots from sprinklers. Then coming to work in early am it's like a freakin' river from the dam business's sprinklers! :8:

Black is Beautiful !!! ;)
I have a 2002,2500 black 4X4 and it is nothing short of sharp !! It does get dirty fairly quick but it cleans up well. Quite frankly it is theraputic detailing it myself. I think that black color offers all the aggressivness of the AV's with the stylings of something the luxury class like the EXT or a navigator.
I swore I would never own a black vehicle until I saw my AV. I have only gotten compliments on this vehicle. I feel that it is the ultimate utility vehicle for the millenum.
But hey I'm jaded but not alone in this opinion

:B: Although Indigo Blue was my first choice, (none available in Southern Indiana), I bought a loaded black Z71 WBH over less expensive Avs of various different colors. I think that it's the sharpest color when clean. My solution to keeping it clean is to drive something else when the roads are wet. When it snowed last week, I drove my son's 92 Stealth to work!! :B:

Black is no doubt the best looking when clean (and wet)! Too bad its only clean right after you wash it. I do not agree with the "its 100 degrees so they're all hot" theory. A black truck is much hotter. A/C will not cool as quick in a black vehicle when left in full summer heat. I have owned 4 black vehicles, and this has been true in all 4. I have actually found that a white truck is ideal in very hot climates (like the 111 we got last year), and white actually stays cleaner looking than my silver birch. I have no idea why, but that is what I have noticed. I still like the silver birch though.

Now if you want to start an exercise regimen to get in shape, the maintenence of keeping a black truck clean will skinny you up in no time! ;D

Again - nothing against black trucks. They do look awesome when clean.

I personally would go for the Dark Gray Metallic. I had a black truck, and like was previously stated, It looks good when clean, but bad when dirty. And we all know, it tends to stay dirty longer then clean.

Here's my truck when clean

Not too shabby

I like the slight green tint it has. Pretty cool too.

18 years and 9 black vehicles and i'll probably never own any othe color. my gto is nightwatch blue, which is essentially black to the eye except in direct sunlight. only a pain in the azz when it rains. can go 2 weeks before raod dirt gets too cruddy before washing but i wash on average once a week. i have 2 black daily drivers besides the other 2 that are weekenders, call me obsessed i guess :2: :2:

i'd love to have the cooler summer benefits of lighter colors, but they are'nt sporty and slick as BLACK.

I too love black, but not for an everyday vehicle. I bought a '86 Cutlass Supreme back in May of '86 and still have it today.
I almost ordered black when I ordered my '03 AV but I remembered how hot black gets when it sits out in the sun all day, not to mention water spots if you try to wash it in the sun.
Black was & is my all time favorite, when I was just a little kid guess what color crayon was used up first, black ;D
