Is it just me... or am I the only person who put black out lights on his truck? ??? I have been around for almost a month now. and I have read alot of post. but never one on blackout head lights... it was the first mod I ever did. ;D and it was the easiest one to do! they fit like a glove, just line up... insert bottom tap first... and push walla they are on. and to remove you just pull back from the sides and they slide off. they look really good, plus they are a great convo starter. :0: well I attached a photo above. I hope you like them... and maybe this will be your next mod? ;)

yeah yeah.. it does help to attach the photo... :6:

btw the lights are Auto Vent Shade part #37122 and make sure you ask for smoke... for black. they also come clear to protect your lights from rocks. :0:

Sweeeeeet! :D

How are they a night? How much light do they block?

How are they installed? w/tape?

Big Red, i have seen them, but i drive so much at night i have veered away from them. I had a set that was clear on my 2000 Z71 and i want a set of clear for the AV for the protection. My last set took a hit from a good size boulder and cracked but there was no damage to the head light. I would like to have them for the protection.
i did get the aVs tail light covers. need to figure out a way to get the s off so it will just have an aV on it ;D

So the smoked covers really block a lot of light @ night? I would expect them to block some but can you still see the road? I swapped my bulbs for silverstars so maybe it's a wash? ???

One of the first things I got too. Definitely a big appearance booster, especially since my Av is black, and combined with the billet grill and bowtie. They do dim your lights at night though, so most of the time I just slip em off.

ahhyeah
where did you get that hood? is it factory? did you have to get it painted to match? does the air induction part work or is it just for looks?
that is sweet?
thanks,
Damon

I haven't got the headlight covers yet
I don't what smoked lens, maybe some clear ones and I can paint them white with holes left clear for the lights to shine through. Anyone tried this approach yet. :0: I have done the rear lights already, painted them white to match the Av (see attached) ;D

Ok...so can anyone who has done this mod please tell us how bad it impacts the lights at night?

Also, are the all snap-on or stick on applications? or has someone created ones that bolt-on?

Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? ;D

i hate to burst your bubble but they are the easiest thing to install! they just slip on! you should get them.. they are worth it!

to answer the light at night. all I can say is I cannot drive with them on at night... even with high beams on... the lights does not penitrate to plastic. hope this helps you out.

Thanks BigRed. My question about the install wasn't because of my fear for bolting things on. I actually don't like tape or snap-on. I prefer bolt-on. But I guess the bigger problem at this point is the fact that you can't see light out of them!

I suggest you check your states vehicle code before adding the smoked headlight covers..In Calif they are illegal. They reduce the effectivness of the headlights. CHP will cite for this in Ca..

Illegal in Ohio as well, although I do see people drving around with them on all the time.

I drive at all times of the day, and to have to keep putting them on, and taking them off, seems like too much of a hassle (imho)....

The smoked and blacked-out are the same. Both are just a deep limo-type tint. They do dim your light's at night, however It's not a big deal for normal driving for me at least. If you do a lot of driving on back roads where it's pitch black with no other lighting it may bother some. Buttttttttt, if you do the upgrade to 50 watt fogs >:D, there's no prob ;D

BTW - Summit has the best price I've found. $36 for the set. Their made by AutoVentshade. I can't remember the whole part number ??? - It starts with AVS

I know alot of you think it's a hassle to take them off at night. to be honest it only takes about 8 seconds to do both!  $36? wow thats a really good deal, I think the retail is $59.99 for all 4 lights. oh and another thing you can do to makes things easier, is you only need to take the bottom two off while driving at night anyways. safes even more time! :0: anybody else have these blackouts that can post a pic?

~BIGRED

this is not one of those shameless post... i'm getting this post back to the top cause i have been getting alot of questions on black out lights in the past 3 days.

I cannot install headlight covers on my Avalanche. They are illegal here, as well as most of Canada. The amount of 'cool' I would get from them does not surpass the 'uncool' I would get by being pulled over, something I have personally seen happen.

But if you want to take the risk, feel free.

IMHO - I love the look of mine (black on black). There a simple and cheap mod, and like BigRed said you only need to take the bottom two off for night driving and that takes all of 15 seconds.

I don't need to remove them though ;D ;D I upgraded to the 50 watt foglamps and readjusted the housings so they aim higher :0: - lights up the road exactly like a set of regular headlights.

And yes, their $36 at summit, or like $45 at Autozone for all 4 covers

M_BARRAGAN, I'm attatching a photo that i hope will help, it isn't the easiest place to take a decent photo, but it should help.

There is a u bar (support for front bumper?) under the front bumper, the outside two lights are bolted on one side where the u bar attatches to the bumper and I drilled a hole for the other bolt. The two in the middle are just screwed into the cladding, they seem to be pretty solid, they don,t vibrate or bounce. But if your worried about them coming lose just use a bolt and nut, you should probably use a washer if you use a nut and bolt. I hope this answers your question, if not let me know and I'll try to explain it better.
