Blower quit last night...troubleshooting?

Of course, in the last blizzard of the year, my FD goes to another town for a house fire. My wife was sitting in the truck with the fan on high to the windshield (at the 90 degree setting). After some time running, the fan stopped working. I bought it into a firehouse to defrost the truck (and to fix a loose windshield wiper) and still no go.

I checked every fuse I could think of, all fuses look good. The only one I am not sure about is the underhood 40amp, but I believe thats good too.

This has the auto heat/ac system and still has power, vents will change, A/C compressor will kick on, and warm air will circulate with truck speed, but no powered fan.

She mentioned that the front panel was very hot to the touch, but they may be due to the heat going...

Any place where to start? I figured the fan motor itself may have just burned out due to the prolonged/high heat...but who knows.

It may be the fan speed resistor. Does it work on other speeds? This is a part seperate from the switch and the fan motor. Located below the glove box under the plastic cover above where your feet would be if seated in the passenger seat. I know of a thread with pics but I cant post a link. Sorry. Someone will know what I mean as several people have dealt with it. Good luck!  :B:

Here are a few schematics to get you started

Exactly where in the truck is this module located? I have another 2004 Z71 that I wouldn't mind swaping modules out (if possible)...and if its easy to get to.

I did mine about a year ago...It is under the glove box. On the 02's it's next to the Cabin air filter.. Not sure of the newer years.. It is easy to replace..I know there are pics here somewhere...

Ok.. I saw that. I thought that was the XM or Onstar module as there was a radio looking antenna cable floating around in there. I'll give that a shot when I get back from CA.

looks like this

Just looking for a point of clairification...

Does the resistor replacement mentioned in the above link used in the auto air option, and does anyone have the part number for the blower control module (or is this all one in the same...not that familar how all this works).

The resistor is for the manual system and the blower motor control processor is for the auto system. I do not have the pn for the blower motor control processor  :(

Ok, back from the left coast...

1st pic is looking from the passenger door up and to the left towards the drivers side. There is some small module sitting up there. Is that the blower control module?

2nd pic is looking from the drivers side, and behind the glove box. I am thinking that this is the onstar and/or XM/GPS module

Or, it is under here somewhere? I am usually good about following diagrams and the such, but the chevy ones above take me for a small loop in finding my bearings. I think some of the previous referenced ones point towards the manual system vs the auto system.

Now, if I pull a good module from my other truck, are they "plug and play" or will I need to do anything else?

Yup it is under that cover. The bolt farthest to the left is a PITA  :E: so just loosen it enough to let the cover hang down.

Finally had some time today...

I am assuming that its the flat electronic pack that plugs into the fan (has a large heat sink on it)

On the label it has:

(1P)52409643
(12V)251946786

Wasn't as hard as I thought...two screws, 1/4 turn on the fan and the whole thing will come down. But yes, trying to disconnect the fan side of the plug without taking the fan down would be a hugh PITA.

At one point I had the correct part number for this module, but neither above (with and without the "()" will not show up on gmparts.

When I did a search on GMpartsdirect  :9: I found 89018596 and 15305077  ??? but there is no pic and when you put the PN in it does not find anything.

New to this site, not sure if this is the right place to post this finding.

I have a '03 Avalanche 1500 Z71, with dual automatic A/C controls.  My blower motor quit.  With help from this site I trouble shoot the system and ordered a replacement blow motor resistor (from GMpartsDirect.com).  Cost was under $52 (dealer cost was $9:cool:, shipping and handling was about $11.31 (total cost was 62.73).

Got confussed with the part numbers, the original part number was 52495874 (this is the bad part, which needs to be replaced).  I entered this number on to the GMpartsDirect.com web site; the web page stated the part number (52495874) has been replaced with 89018778.  I can accept this, but now I'm looking at the part which was sent to me and the part number (on the new part) is 52413530.

Does anyone know if this is a problem?  I'm sending GMpartsDirect.com an e-mail (asking if this is the correct part for my vehicle)?  I would call them but I can't find their number.

Is part number 52413530 a new replacement for part numbers: 89018778 and or 52495874?  If I find out any thing, I will get you all know.

I'm also fighting this exact issue.? I've replaced the blower control module but the blower still doesnt work.

I'm getting ready to go buy the blower but it still feels like I'm throwing money away.

Follow-up, I still have not received a reply from GMpartsDirect.com. :E:  I did install the part (that was labeled 52413530).  The part worked, and is still working.  My blower motor is now working. :D

Hope this helps other with the same predicament.
