please share with me the quote's anyone has recieved for having all cladding painted..mine said 2300.00 and that's not even sanding it..

Search around through this forum, and you'll find a lot of prices, mostly ranging between $1400-$2000.
I know of some that have paid nearly $3,000 for sanding and all.
I know there is a place online that was selling painted cladding for around $1500 + shipping. I'm not sure if it was original Av cladding that was painted, or EXT painted cladding.

There is a thread on painted cladding that has a lot of pricing details. I had mine sanded and primed (twice) and then painted. I did NOT paint the covers or inside of the sails. Cost was about $2600 Canadian, so 1750 - 1900 US dollars

I got a quote of $1000 for painting cladding without sanding and at a separate place $2800 with sanding.

:6: I had my cladding painted on my black AV for $1000 w/o sanding. (texture remains) and it looked terrible. After treating it with "tire and trim gel it looks great, especially on a cloudy day. I will not recommend painting the cladding. Or maybe I got a poor paint job, went to get gas, pulled out the nozzle after filling it up and a drop of gas dripped on the cladding and took the paint off immediately. This is crazy! Don't do it, it not worth the additional headaches.

I paid $1700 sanded and smoothed... including the cargo covers. Mine came out great.

It's been 3 months so far and about 5K miles of driving... no chips, cracking, or peeling yet.. Not an easy 5K miles at that either.. already had to replace a cracked windshield from flying rocks, got hit in the door by some old guy trying to park his lincoln into the spot next to me, and a hubcap flew off a car in front of me and smacked my front bumper..... Guess if they do it right, you won't have to worry.

They used a special flex additive and adhesion promoter for painting plastic, plus the sanding helps it stick better.

Agree with all the above for a nice lasting job. After 8 months mine is lasting great. And there is a lot of gravel on the roads here in winter.
$1700 for painting including covers isagret price :D

No none. And I have overfilled a time or 2 :2:

I now have a little roll up gizmo that saves me from myself. It's like a bib that fits over the fill pipe and rolls up behind the filler door. Cost like $2.95.
I find the paint stands up as good or better than original.
I had the sand and prime done. And the adhesive(?) promoter, AND the flex agent. And the guy at the shop said he would slap me silly if I put anything on it (polish) for 6 weeks or so. Told me that this type of paint job needed a long time to breathe/cure.

i was given a price of $1800. the guy's who owned the shop wanted to do their first AV. thought it was a good idea at first, but if this is their first one...? ???

IS THERE ANYONE IN CHICAGO, IL PAINTING THE CLADDING FOR THE AV'S? THANKS :B:

One thing to remember when having the cladding painted. This is not something you should look for the best price but rather who does the best work.

I have had my cladding painted for 5 months now and have over 8000 cruising miles on it. A good paint job is as only as good as the steps gone through in the preparation. The parts must be cleaned and dried, sanded, cleaned, and plastic prepped before the primer goes on. I did mine myself, but I have the experience and equipment. My cladding paint job has held up quite well. I even had someone hit me on the left rear mudflap and all that it did was burn the paint from his tire, didnt peel off. Cant say the same for his car.............. 2002 Mitsubishi Galant.

Dave,

Your painted cladding looks great! Great job!

Mine won't get painted, but the new dark charcoal cladding on an Onyx Z71 looks pretty good. If we had a white Av, I'd probably think differently.

I agree the darker cladding looks much better with the onyx black and charcoal paint. I drove mine for over a year with the grey cladding, but once I saw one half a$$ done at a dealership, that is when I decided to do my own. I have never really trusted anyone to work on my toys anyway!

Do you have any pics? I would like to see what the cargos look like painted. (y)

Thanks

Had mine done at the dealership's pro shop. They charged me $1,200. Never asked if they sanded it. I saw one on the lot and it looked great so I just told them to hook me up the same way. It is not rough at all...very smooth. Looks and feels just like the rest of the truck. I wish I had pics to post.

Anyway, I have had it for about 3 months (6,000 miles) now without a problem. It looks great!!!

Caddy Dealer...

900$ for upper sail-panel & bed area.

1200$ for all lower body sections.

sanded, primed, whole deal...

decisions, decisions, decisions...

Chad... a week or so after I bought my Av I saw a cladded SOM fully painted cladding and f/r bumpers.... IMHO it looked like a pumpkin rolling down the road. The SOM with cladding looks good... but fully painted looked like hell IMHO..... and I have not seen the AV since.. so sorry no pics of it.

an Idea for you paintshop guru's.... why not paintshop an SOM cladded Av to look like it is all painted... this could give those with the SOM Av's something to go by.

I've seen the all SOM. Meaning Everything including lower section of the bottom cladding....

If I were to do this I'd do something like Alaska_AV showed....

I like most of this...I'd leave the back bumper the original color. I would consider just doing the top cladding too.

This is really a mute point for me, because I will more than likely never ever do this, but I just like to see what it would potentially look like.
