I have been trying to nail down how to upgrade the front protection since the first weekend we had our AV. ?It didn't take long to figure out that the foglights were just the right trail height for roots and rocks.

After reading threads all over the site, there seems to be a variety of brush guards. None offer foglight protection. ?

The only option I was seeing was going with a full metal bumper. ?It would be cost prohibitive for me at this point.

So I checked out all that WAAG had to offer and send them an email to see if it was possible to combine their grill guard with their foglight guard (Frontrunner).

Look's like it may run about $200 over their typ. grill guard price. Is anyone else interested in getting one?

Kevin,

I got an error when trying to view your picture.

That looks very interesting. I've been debating the Waag front runner, or full blown brush guard in grey. This adds an interesting twist. Is this a special order/special build item, or is it regular stock?

Now that it's winter, I'm facing that problem again with snow piles in parking lots. Given the size of our trucks, many parking spaces are too short as is. But with piles of snow at the end of the spaces, they're even shorter right now. To compensate, I tend to try to pull right up to, and sometimes even a little into the snow pile.

I'm just afraid that pushing too hard into the snow will push the fog lights in and knock them loose. While those lower covers would be great for keeping branches and other similar hazards out of the lights, I wonder if they would get bent up if I were to pull to far into the snow pile?

I also wonder how well the paint (is it powder coat?) will hold up if it scrapes against the frozen icy snow piles?

So many mods, so many questions, so many decisons...

While I have yet to push snow with the front, I have (accidently) pushed rocks, stumps, and brush.

If memory serves me, Jackson had one very similar which helped deflect a deer. ?After seeing these shots I looked a lot more seriously at the grill guard by WAAG.

As far as availibility... it is an one-of-a-kind by WAAG. The image is a photoshopped image send to me via email from WAAG. They seem very helpful and fast to reply - both great qualities in a company.

I want to see if there are enough members interested in getting one, we could see about getting a limited run of these at a group buy price.

As far as the powder coating goes, I haven't a clue. ?I would go with a bed-liner spray on if you really need harsh scuff resistance.

Wether they will bend will depend on the speed of impact and hardness of the snow/ice pile being hit.

Get the WAAG

Their is nothing like it (personal opinion)

Deflected one deer this year allready.

How did it hold up? How fast were you going?

I have got to check out your Waag next week!

Impressed with the GM guard so far. In several cases playing on ATV trails in our hunting club I've had to turn around due to the trail narrowing.

In turning this rig around I've had to push over small trees and brush. The guard works really well.

DOES THE WAAG GRILL FIT THE 2500 AV? I THINK THEY SELL WAAG AT PEP BOYS STORES.
Yes it does fit the 2500, in fact it was designed for the the 2500 and fits it better than the 1500.

Here is the most recent emails from Joe at WAAG in response to my asking for about the possibility of a group buy:

Kevin, I'll pass this over to our sales manager and she can discuss
specifics. We had to do some work on the photo to make it work, so the
existing parts are not going to fly as they are. You might want to gauge the
interest among your members.
Joe

If we could get a group buy - who would be interested? what would your interest level price range be?

Kevin, I would be interested in that setup...being in white tail country need something to take the brunt of an impact and after a dog took out my fog light and cracked the bumper that bottom protection would be a plus....I guess you could say I'm in on this one

I wonder if the lower bar of the WAAG could be beefed up enough to hold a receiver hitch. Then we could use the receiver-mounted Warn winch. That would make a superb combination.

I assume the WAAG replaces the two recovery hooks.

Steve

I just put the WAAG one-piece on this weekend. Great product and great fit!

Have you gotten a specfic price for the brush guard or is this all speculation? If WAAG is willing to build and the price is reasonable I am interested in buying one.

I'm interested in this version, but I'm having a real hard time convincing the finance officer (the wife.) :6:

i'm wondering how it would look on a indigo blue av...any one with pics of the standard waag brush guard on one
As long as we're asking for pictures, I'd love to see the grey waag on an indigo blue av. ;D

I was just given the run-down on the waag mount on this weekend's GTG.

The main brackets are sandwiched between the frame rails and the recovery hooks. The hooks are temporarily removed, and then reinstalled.

Then there is a second set of brackets that go between the bumper cladding and the bottom of the grille. It is necessary to remove the front grille piece (which includes the grille, chrome bar, and surrounding body color painted pieces.) Once the brackets are installed, the grill piece is reinstalled.

It sounds complicated, but I'm told it's not that bad.

Does anyone know if the WAAG comes in chrome?
I'm not sure how a black grill guard would look with my chrome GO RHINO step guards.

I'd be interested in Steve's idea too. I've got my receiver-mounted Warn winch sitting in the garage waiting to be mounted on the AV.

The last time I looked WAAG did not have a chrome alternative. I plan on going with Westin(chrome) to match my chrome step bars (also by Westin).

All I hear about is the WAAG but they are not the only ones who make Brushguards for the Avalanche ?

or you can go with the Bull Bar...
