I took the window out of my '03 AV yesterday for the first time and noticed the grid looks over-heated. :7:

I have turned it on once, while reading the owners manual.

Has anyone else had this problem? ???

My '02 AV grid looks fine after 18 months. However it was not used much in Hawaii ;D

I find it hard to believe that that outter itching can be burnt! Now if something was on the itching, that shouldn't be and you turned the defroster on, then I can see it showing signs of burning...
As its an 03, you should still have warranty on it, have the dealer repair/replace. Just make sure that its not something that you have wiped onto the window...

My '03 has the same appearance. IMO though, I wouldn't say burnt though, instead it appears to be a dark-brownish erratic stain. I may be wrong, but I think mine was like that from the first day. I tried a degreaser and other mild cleaners to no avail...Any ideas out there????

hard to tell frompic is it black?

Remember it is copper and may have the protective layer cleaned off and is not oxidizing..,....?

I contacted the dealership, they suggested I bring it in. I wonder if I can get a dark tinted mid-gate glass out of this. The sales price is the same, the only difference is that the part number ends in a 5 not a 4.

It is not black, but brown. As if there was an electrical fire. That color brown.

Mine has looked like that for as long as I can remember. :(
I'm not sure of the cause. ???
It does not clean up for me. :E:

Just got back from the local dealership 0 for 3 on "as sold" problems. The mid-gate glass, a biff in the sail cladding and several spots on the bed covers ( don't ever purchase a AV at night). I will contact the selling dealership (100 miles away) to see what they will do.

With all this horse $h!t, there must be a pony in here!!!

I sent digital photos of my areas of concern to the dealership where I purchased the 03 AV. They gave me an appointment on Thursday. I think all will go well.

Hmm. I have noticed the same thing on my 6 month old 03. I never really thought of it as burnt, but that is kinda what it looks like. I just assumed that whatever it is made out of was supposed to change color as it aged, and that it would eventually all be a solid color.

As long as it works, the "new" color dosen't bother me. Just the fact that it has a sort of gradient look to it is annoying. (Darker at the edges.)

3 and 0 this time.

Midgate glass replaced, sail piece replaced and 3 bed covers replaced.

Plus they gave me a khaki Chevrolet bowtie ball cap. (y)

I knew there was a pony in here!!!

Attached is the new "un burnt" window.

That is GREAT! Sometimes that is all it takes, just finding the right dealership.

GBT,

I got mine changed out at the selling dealership, no questions asked. Have you tried to get yours switched?

I never really gave it much thought.
It has been a long time (2 years) since I have used my rear window defroster, and that was only to see if it worked.
Maybe I should check again to be sure that it still works?
Also, maybe I'll check with dealership about replacement - couldn't hurt to ask.

my 03 has the same thing and i went to the dealer and he told me that all of them do it.

but since some of you got yours replaced, i'm going to go back in and see what they say.

it was white when i bought it , then it turned brown and i never even used the damn thing!!!

Mine looked like that on my '02 that I had for 3 years.
I assumed it was nicotine stains
