SPOTLIGHT
CADILLAC RELEASES FIRST PHOTO OF 2004 SRX .... Cadillac has released the first photo image of its all-new luxury utility, the SRX, due out mid next year as a 2004 model. The SRX is a luxury utility with the heart and soul of a sport sedan. It is designed to fit a new place in the Cadillac portfolio, the medium luxury utility segment, a segment that fits in between Cadillac's luxury sedans and full-size SUVs.
Inspired by the 2001 Vizon concept, the SRX is built on a performance-oriented architecture shared with the CTS. It will be manufactured at GM's new state-of-the-art Lansing Grand River Facility in Lansing, Michigan. The new vehicle has the longest wheelbase in its class and offers superior ride quality and dynamic stability. Its overall height is taller than a sedan and lower than a typical SUV. The SRX, powered by a V6 or V8 engine, will be available in RWD or AWD.

I like that Cadillac is pushing it a little.
Just waiting for the CTSi with Corvette 5.7 and 6-speed. >:D

Hum...
Looks like a Volvo Cross Country/Audi Sporty-Wagon-Cross-Training-Shoe thingy. :cautious:
I don't think I'll be getting one of these. :3:

I like it allot, but I like the New Direction of Cadillac anyway, I've read threads on other sites that of people who have seen the new XLR at Pebble beach say it's quite striking in person, I would think this will be as well.

Zimm,

I think maybe I should unsubscribe to my automotive news emails. I got my update, with photography, on the SRX in my email this morning. I was going to post it but you beat me to it. Thanks!!! I think maybe you should start your own website with GM updates.....guarantee I would subscribe. Some guys who use to be at Campbell Ewald started a insider newsletter with lots of great stuff. When my computer crashed last year I lost my bookmarks but will find the address for you....iI know you would get a kick out of it.

On an unrelated note this month's Car and Driver has some good stuff in it. Especially with reference to the Subaru Baja...IT HAS A MIDGATE!!!!! I did not know that. This edition also has a pic of GMC's XUV swinging tailgate.

Hey Zimm...take a lool at the attachment...now that is a wild Cadillac!!!

The CTS isn't far off from the dash pic. Seems like the CTSi could do the upgrade pretty easily.

Why buy the Porsche when the VW version will be almost the same, and no doubt be less expensive!

The Caddy is way too far fetched for me! Caddy is trying real hard to get to the younger crowd!

I'm 34, am I the younger crowd? If so they've got me! The quality is first class, finally, and the cars, I think, are very goodlooking without looking like everything else out there. I think the market is takeing notice as well as sales of the CTS and Escalade and Our cousin, the Escalade EXT are (to the auto press' dismay) strong! GM is definately back! :B:

I think Cadillac has done a great job on the styling and execution of their concepts. I really like the styling of the Vizon and Imaj. If I were shopping for a luxo box right now, I would strongly consider a car executed in that vein. I applaud Cadillac for trying to make a move to more modern designs. The CTS is the first production case in point. I think they need to move faster along those lines and get rid of the other tired, farty old designs in production.

I agree...everyone for a few years now has gone with the bubble rounded look. Cadillac decided on the sharp hard edges ofthe F18. Bold but isnt that what makes it

BREAK THROUGH

For the record the picture of the SRX doesn't do the real vehicle justice.

I kinda like the look.....But I still want a '63 caddy convertable.... >:D

I dont think that a car maket can have every aspect of the market in every line Caddy is a luxury line and with the way that these cars are going to be priced there are not going to be tremendous sales.

PRODUCT NEWS
NEXT-GENERATION NORTHSTAR ENGINE TO POWER CADILLAC XLR AND SRX ....

GM Powertrain has taken its Northstar 4.6-liter, dual-overhead-camshaft (DOHC) V8 to a higher level of performance and refinement by developing a next-generation version of the highly regarded engine for the 2004 Cadillac XLR and SRX. The next-generation Northstar is the first adaptation to rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations.
In both new Cadillac models, the Northstar delivers a higher output across the entire operating range with targeted output of 315 horsepower (235 kW) @ 6400 rpm and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque @ 4,400 rpm. In addition to these peak values, new four-cam continuously variable timing has freed the engine from the traditional constraints of fixed-cams that can only provide either high horsepower or high torque.

GM Powertrain's new Hydra-Matic 5L50-E 5-speed automatic transmission was developed to manage the high torque and horsepower of the next-generation Northstar 4.6-liter V8 in the XLR and SRX. It is the first transmission to integrate three performance features found individually on various high-performance American and European luxury sport sedans.

I have to admit I like the new caddy styling..bold yet fresh...I think it will do good in this segment....I also think they are trying to become more appealing to the younger generation.....hence some more reasonably priced models... :B:
