I just put in the Cadillac Gearshift lever.
Let me tell you...that was not easy. ?I was anxious to do it and got a late start. ?I had no instruction and only a vague idea of how to do it. ?It took me around 2 1/2 hours from start to finish.
(My) Procedure:
Take dash bezel off
Take insturment cluster out
Remove steering column
Remove lower part of dash, below the steering column
Pull up (invert) rubber sleeve on existing gearshift lever
Take off wire holders (2) from steering column area
Unscrew torque screw (t-30) holding shifter in
Unhook the Wire harness for the tow/haul mode (this was the hardest part for me, seriously)
Hook in new wiring harness
Route wire under steering column
Re-hook new wire holders (comes with new shifter)
Screw in the torque screw for the shift lever
Put the dash back together in the reverse order you took it apart

Let me tell you, I'm not sure yet if it was worth the effort. ?That's an expensive part ($105) for just getting a chrome tip and some leather on the handle (that doesn't quite match the truck). ?BUT IT'S NOT COMING OUT!!!

Wow, you took off all that. When I did it before, I just removed the bezel and knee trim.
It's still fun taking the truck apart though. ;D

Where were you when I needed you when I was modding?!?! :p
In this case, I couldn't find or see the hookup for the tow/haul wire. Maybe my hands were too chubby to get back in there.
Hey, take a look at my thread Help!!Denali Bezel and see if you know what I'm talking about.
At least the shifter is on, but what a pain.

I was right here waiting. All you had to do was ask. ?>:D

OK Pendulum,

I'm asking for help. I need to shorten the shaft on my gear shifter. It currently gets in the way of my motorized LCD screen on my Navigation system. I would even buy a shorter gear shifter if they make one. It may be easier to bend the Stock handle of the factory gear shifter. It looks like a hard plastic handle but I'm sure it has a iron bar thru the center. To make this mod more complicated is the Tow shift button. I bet most of GM's gear shift handles are interchangeable. Maybe the S10 compact truck gear shifter will work?

You may want to send Pendulum a private message or an email for this one.

You are correct, the gearshift has at least a 1/2" thick metal shaft covered by either plastic or rubber coating. To complicate things the wire for the tow/haul mode runs somewhere through it, I can't recall if it's through a channel in the metal or maybe just under the plastic coating.

The easier option would be to find a shorter one (I'd think). :cautious:

Thanks Earth Quake,
You know from reading your signature you appear to be a Titans Fan. The Houston Oilers were never the team they are now until ya'll changed there names to the Titans. I was just wondering if Tennesse would mind to much if we renamed the Cowboys the Dallas Titans.

Why don't we wait and see if the name works for Nissan's new pick-up first.
If it does work, you have to take Bud Adams first.
