Hello, I am new to the group. I'm interested in chroming the stock grille on my wbh Avalanche. I've looked at it and it looks like the gray plastic grille is heat welded to the chrome bar and surround. Any tips, suggestions, experience? I'm not too impressed with putting an aftermarket grille on, I haven't yet found one that I like.

Welcome to the club....

A long time ago...a member who had a 2002 cladded removed the grill and spray painted with chrome paint......he cut through the plastic welds and the apinted and then reinstalled...

try a search.....think it was xrover.....HTH

I've held up a speed grille to the original and was not happy because I could see the stock grille too much and it just looked bad. I sell Chevrolets and had our parts dept. cut out the stock grille on a new vehicle and attempt to install the speed grille with no success. The grille would of had to been bent and tweaked to fit and we did not want to ruin the grille. We had to put a billet grille on to cover the cut out.

I've got the chrome Speed Grille and I was originally fearful of being able to see the factory grille too much. However, now that I've had it installed for a month and a half, I only see the factory grille if I'm looking for it.

Check out the pictures on my website to see more examples.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do! Keep us posted. (y)

My brother works for a plating company in Oregon, he says you can't chrome the plastic grill, because.....well....it's plastic.

Sorry :(
