Aw jeez - another one...

Foks, when you buy a vehicle and don't think before you buy it (I'm not saying YOU didn't think) then this is what can happen.

For example: if you plan on lowering your vehicle and you plan on buying a 4WD vehicle, it only MAKES SENSE to investigate your lowering options on that vehicle BEFORE YOU BUY it!

Another example: if you plan on buying a 2WD vehicle that weighs 6,000+ pounds and it's light in the rear end without extra weight back there, and you plan on driving it up and/or down a steep driveway from a standing start in the snow, you just might want to consider 4WD BEFORE YOU BUY it!

Do you see a pattern here? If folks spent more time planning things out before making the second largest purchase in their lives then they wouldn't be disappointed when it came time to put all that "Bling Bling" on their trucks.

It's "look before you leap" not "leap before you look." >:D

Try BellTech they make 4wd lowering kits... Call them directly, don't email them they won't reply, and don't call a dealer who won't know about Avalanche suspension. Call BellTech @Phone: Tollfree US: 800.445.3767
California and Outside US: 559.445.1602 :B:

Take it easy :)
I've got some mods I will likely never put on
I have a Z-71 with the DJM drop kit on it. Reading these boards you will see that there are a number of different opinions on this (dropping the z-71), some stated as fact.
Rclydly sent me an e-mail about this tonight. I have suggested that he contact DJM direct, as this is what my guy did. He talked with Lowryder in Vancouver (just north of rclydly) and they contacted DJM.

And as already mentioned, there is the belltech option.

Gezez Dan take it easy. I didnt know either. Its not like you buy the truck with the spedcific idea of lowering it. You look around and see what you like then see if you can do it. Again just my opinion.

Luv you guys

Let's all try and keep with the spirit of the club :B: and not ostracize other Av owners for what they want to do, have done or didn't know. This is a place for learning and sharing and is not for attacking eachother.

This is just a reminder of what we are all about.

(y) ok...next time i buy a car, i'll make sure i have the complete list of things i would do to the car and contact each and every one of manufactures and make sure they have or will have the parts for that vehicle in the future....so i don't end up like the every one of AV forum members with a 'not thinking of head of time' kinda questions ;)
and buying a car is not a second largest purchase in my life i'll ever make so for give me for not THINKING .
Thank you Sparky....I'll call DJM direct tomorrow...i just couldn't wail overnight and had to ask...;D ;D ;D

Ahh kids lets play nice..

I here where you are coming from lowering the AV. I personally am going to Raise mine with the RCD kit (thanks MAGIC MTN DAN) But there are the few that like the lowered look but also want the ability to run 4WD in case it snows..

Well well well. I've posted many times on this... anyways, I've installed the DJM 3/5 kit on my 2003 Z71 AV. I called DJM and they were, um, to put it nice, rude to me. They just said, that's what you get for customizing stuff. I'm like.. ok... then they finally asked if I was in Cali 'cause, basically, they would call someone who cares. I ended up getting most of my info from the installer Sparky chose in Canada. The reason I have 4x4 lowered is that the tires I have, have no traction in mud, snow, ice, we grass, blah blah blah. Also love the options with the Z71 package. Also, plan on more engine mods and 2 wheel drive vs. 4 wheel drive on take off with MASSIVE engine mods consists of more tire spin (2WD)

??? ok~~ so you got it lowered with their 2wd kit? withought any modification? :)

Do a search on "Z71 Drop" or "DJM Drop Kit" and many others... you will find deep posts about this. I installed the kit myself, and did not have to modify any of the parts. It was a bit dificult. The big differece is the front axle!!!

what all did you do and did you have to change the camber?

~BIGRED

you need to remove the spindle or the upper control arm to pull out the front drive axle in order to replace the lower contol arm...cause 2wd doesnt have this...and i had to adjust the camber on the front and also a toe in adjustment...when you look at the upper cantrol arm there is a two adjuster ...one has white plastic piece and other has blue piece on it in order to hold the camber ..i had to remove these and adjust it...toe in is also required.....i think i can drive like this without the alignment...although is recommended..since i got it done now i can do this all day ........but i wont ,so dont ask... ;D

well.. I just got the message, so I'll have to take pics tomorrow at work.. sorry guys.. I had all the alignment done by a shop...

here ya go, one for the gallery
