Cargo Area, More Space For 4 Wheeler Needed

I just bought a 2003 Av WBH in white. I love this truck! When I was shopping for a new vehicle, I wanted more passenger space and didnt mind giving up some cargo space. As long as I could fit my Arctic Cat 4 wheeler or Snowmachinei n the back, all would be fine. So I did some research and read the specs on the AV and read that the cargo box area was 50 inches wide, I know the the widest part of my 4 wheeler was only 48 inches wide. So it SHOULD fit. I also saw an ad in a magazine that showed an Av carrying a Arctic cat 4 wheeler in the back area. Well, this closed the deal for me, I was buying an Avalanche. Well guess what, the darn bike does not fit in the back of my new $ 50 000.00 truck. :mad:The cargo area is wide enough except for the area where the solid tonneau covers latch on to. The Avalanche designers should find a way to widen the cargo area atleast 4 more inches for the future!

A little sad : :8:
Boom of Manitoulin

PS: how did they get that AC 4 wheeler in the back of the AV?

WOW! $50k for a WBH! But that wasn't your question. 2 suggestions, but keep this in mind, I don't have a 4 wheeler and I've never witnessed one in an AV.
1) If it's the hard cover mounts giving you fits, you might consider selling the hard cover and getting a soft cover. I don't know how much more space that'd give you though.
2) If I recall, someone was having the same issues and ended up removing the water channeling drains (gutters) from their bed and got their 4 wheeler in.
I think there are a number of members that use 4 wheelers in their AV and might give better insight.
Food for thought.

I simply reduce the air pressure in my Polaris's tires and it goes right in. A little trial and error to get the fender over the channel and the tire below but it all worked out in the end.

Don't know if it will work for you but it might.
