I know I have seen this covered, but I can't locate the thread. ?I have a neighborhood cat that likes to jump on my vehicles. ?Problems is he has done this in the past to my wifes van and used its claws when he started to slide off. ?Does anyone know of a cat repellant?

Alot of folks use live traps and take them to the animal shelter.

That seems to be the nicest way.

Problem is its my next door neighbors cat , his kid would miss it and just replace it with another

Well, I think a German Shepard would help, plus it will keep other things away from your truck as well....

Well what every you decide will work, it needs to be done without you being seen by the cat. If it associates danger/pain with the AV it will stay clear of it. If it associates the danger/pain with you, the the cat will only take off when it sees you coming to get it the hell of the AV!!

A co-worker's Dad solved their problem of the nieghbors dog killing the plants in the yard (marking territory) by placing a "electric fence" wire right about "marking level" for the dog. I don't know the voltage that was applied (I don't think they had an electric fencer >:D ), but the dog from then on (after wetting the wire) would actually go to the other side of the road to get by the house!

Never did set foot (or paw) in their yard again!

So if you can figure out how to do something like that, I think you'd have your problem solved.

Good luck!

There are some sprays that you can use to discourage a cat from going (or "going") wherever you spray it, but I don't think I'd want to spray that stuff on my AV. :cautious:

Check your local pet shop - if it won't work, take berto's suggestion to heart and get a dog! Doesn't have to be a big dog... most cats will steer clear of most dogs except the cute friendly little ankle-biter types. ;)

Seven

Thanks for all the info. I have a cat, so the dog option is out. I thought I read you could use garlic or something, hung in net bags around the Av?

Your best bet is to confront the neighbor, and explain what the cat is doing, and that they are not being responsible pet owners by letting their cat roam the 'hood.

I once had a problem with my cats running into the neighbors yard and beating up thier cat, and fixed the problem by using Invisible Fence on my cats....Apparently cats are more easily trained than dogs for that sort of thing.

Just a thought!

I had a problem with cats sleeping and walking all over my Av so I used Bitter Apple. You can get it from any pet store, they hate it and does nothing to the AV, my cat problem is gone. :D:

Bitter apple is Nasty. First hand experience there.

That would work.

Is Bitter Apple a brand name? How and where is it applied?

Grannicks Bitter Apple

Here is one link. ?You just spray it on/around whatever you don't want bit or licked.

When I was training my puppy I actually had to spray it on my hands and pant legs.

Also the leash but He quit chewing on things.

Had the same cat type problems several years ago. Cat would sit on the roof of my black suburban during the night since the black color would obsorb the heat during the day and the cat would stay warm at night. In the morning the darn cat would jump off the roof onto the hood with claws extended. I tried all humain options bitter apple cian pepper you name, it no sucess. I was forced to make the cat disappear :-X

Wow, I have been tempted to do that myself a time or two. Never had enough guts though.

Bitter Apple can be purchased online at
http://www.Petsmart.com
http://www.petco.com

There are different strengths, I get the extra strong and I pour it on the hood and other locations I don't want cats.

For me it works.

Another option is coyote urine, I use this in extreme measures because it is not cheep. Normally the heavy hitting Feed and Supply places carry it. I don't like the idea of electric fences so I got some of this and the dogs know there place, they fear it, it works wonders on cats. In this case you don't apply it to the Ave, but around it, the after two or three days, the cats won't come near it.

I am no there to judge, but I hope you got rid of the cat by giving it away, because to kill or to act cruelly simply is never justified.

It was that cat or my suburban, could not afford to keep getting the hood repaired. I don't dislike cats but I draw the line when they start destroying poperty. Understand that this went on for several months befor I was forced to take action. I did everything possible to try and find the owners with no success. I whish I had an alternitive. I even resorted to the BB gun, you would figure after two seperate notices with the BB gun that this cat would have gotten the idea. No, not so!

I agree with the Bitter Apple. ?It worked for me. ?There are other scents you can apply which repel cats. ?I suggest trying Scent-Off too.

Cats tend to avoid places that smell bad. Though what they consider a bad smell may not be bad to us. We tried this and it worked pretty quickly.

When I was a kid, my father had a solution for a problem like the one you describe. It is called:

The Unsupervised Pet Relocation Program

Simply catch the animal, put it in a container, then transport the animal to a roadside location not less than 50 miles away. As I said, preferably roadside. Isn't there a mall or tourist attraction that you've been dying to see but didn't really have the excuse to go??
Now's your chance. This program is very effective, especially at this time of year. Lassie Come Home doesn't happen as often in real life as Disney would have you believe.
