Earlier my check engine light came on. I drove to a gas station/service and had them check my truck with a scanner and they told me that the code was for the catalytic converter. My question is does GM warranty this? If so, what do I have to do?

Sorry, did a search and came up with a 80k emissions warranty. Will they charge me for a scan though?

They shouldn't if its a warranty item :D

I do a few of those a week, all free if its under warranty.......

Suggest going to dealer and having them check the light out....

Greetings Guys? :welcome:-

It's been over 2 years since I've been able to log in due to computer trouble but I'm now here.?

:help: I have a 2003 Avy with 38,000+ miles and my Check engine light came on.
According to the scan read from Advance Auto: Catalytic Converter.

I see were numerous people have spoke of this "80k USA GOV warranty emissions" but I'd like to reference something in writing.? The reason so is because in April 2007? the same check engine light? came up for O2 Sensor 1 in Bank 2 and I paid nearly $380.00 to have the work done because I was told it was out of Warranty?? (I would think that had something to due with emmisions).

Well I've always enjoyed this site? (y) and glad I can once login again for the participants' insight, but I need to say the truck I fell in love with I'm beginning to hate because of the low milage and High Cost of Maintenance :needhug:.? Secondly, the DIC can tell more all sorts of wonderful/useless things from a door being open to low wiper fluid but I have one stupid engine light to determine several major problems from bad O2 sensors to no oil in the Engine to bad Cat. Converters? WHY!!!!! :E:

Thanks in Advance!

The check engine light comes on for a catalytic converter?  Or a sensor?  The reason why I say this, is my converter went out on New Year's holiday one year.  Actually the thing separated.  The way the AV ran, I thought it was the transmission because when I would give it gas, the whole truck shook, and when I left off the gas got a lot of banging.  I had to drive it for a couple of days like this because of the holidays.  So happens that New Years day was on a Monday, so, I had to wait till Tuesday for it to be fixed.

Want to reference something in writing?  Grab your owner's manual and warranty docs.  It's spelled out right in there.  Look at the resources tab on the left for a PDF owner's manual if necessary.
