Center Console Disassembly

This is my first post to the group and I wanted to say what a useful forum this is. I've read all the posts back several weeks and have gotten a wealth of information on my new '03 AVA. Now here is my first question:

I am going to be installing a hands-free kit for my cell phone this weekend. I want to place the control box inside the forward protion of the center console. Before I go tearing into things, can someone advise me on how to remove the face plate from the console. You know, the piece that has the ciggy lighter, aux power point and pockets on it. Are their clips to be dealt with, or do I just get my putty knife and start to pry it up?

Thanks in advance

The lower center console is held in by 2 screws located where your CD storage trays are. Remove them, and lift up and out on the center piece. It comes out by itself. You can then remove the piece that looks like it is meant to hold stuff by prying on two clips on either side of it if you want to remove it. The dash bezel (trim) is held in with clips. Start at either corner of the dash and gently pull out. You may have to move your steering wheel into a lower position to do this. Everything should be held by clips and is very self explanitory once you get the trim piece off.

Welcome to the club, omgtkk!

Wiki, it sounds like you are describing the procedure for 2002. Does your procedure also work for a 2003 like omgtkk's Av? I know there are differences in the consoles between the years, but I'm not sure what all of them are.

Anyway, when installing your handsfree kit, you may already be aware of available custom mounting brackets, but if not, check out this PanaVise mounting bracket. Mount this bracket to the dash using existing screws, and then mount your handsfree cradle to this bracket.

When mounting my handsfree unit, I wish I had heard about this bracket before I drilled holes in my dash. :6:

If you go to my modifications page (click on my signature link) you can see a couple pictures of my installation.

Good luck, let us know how it works out.

HUGE OOOOOOOPS!!! Didnt see that part! OMG thanks Shapeshifter. What was I thinking leading a poor new soul down the paths of destruction!!

My deepest appologies if you have a destroyed dash, but I think the procedure is similar in that everything should be clipped in.

Again, thanks Shapeshifter!

Wiki, we won't shame you! Way to step up to the plate to help a fellow AV owner!!

The dash should be similar, just be patient and if you encounter any unusual resistance stop and look for any screws.
