Change Engine Oil Light

My "Change Engine Oil " light came on a couple of days ago so I went to the Jiffy lube that I always go to, and they changed the oil. The light still comes on after I start up the engine. It has been a couple of days so I was wondering if the sensor went bad. I have over 28,000 miles on my Av and was wondering if anyone else has had their sensor go out.

The only other thing I can think of is that Jiffy Lube didn't change the oil and scammed me but I have been using them since day 1 with no problems. When I get home from work I will check the oil to see if it is new.

Sounds like they did not reset it as outlined in the manual.

Turn ignition on & press and release accelerator 3 times in five seconds.

The vehicle does not analyze the oil to see if it is bad. It merely bases its calculations upon starting temperature, RPMs, and driving time. The problem you are experiencing is that Jiffy Lube is not resetting the engine oil computer. There is a section in the manual on doing this. Just look up Oil Change. :)

I hope this helps!

Interesting,... The salesman that sold me the truck said it checks the viscosity of the oil and tells me when it is starting to breakdown. :cautious:

I thought that was pretty amazing at the time.

Boar-Ral is right. Nothing fancy, just measurements of temperature and revolutions. There is quite a lot of research behind it though. It's not as accurate as periodic laboratory testing of oil samples, or a special oil sensor, but it's far more accurate than saying "every 3 months or 3000"

Fish_Guide is also right, reset it yourself.

I've taken the Av in for two changes at Valvoline instant oil change. The guy at location "A" reset it, and said so. The guy at a different location "B" either knew nothing about it, or ignored it. I had to reset it myself. ("B" was my usual location, and the crew is nothing special. I've been to location "A" a couple of times, and have been impressed with the crew there. This clinches it: it's a little out of my way, but I'll be going to "A" from now on.)

Make sure you reset it ASAP. The longer you wait, the more it will throw off (delay) the next indication.

Key on with engine off: floor it three times quickly. The light should blink a couple of times, then go out if it was done right.

Did you do it yet? Go out in the garage and do it now, we'll wait here for you. ;)

Whew!, OK, I'm still at work but after reading your email I ran out into the parking lot and did what you said and it worked. I started the engine and the light didn't come on.

Thanks to all!

Ran out to the lot while at work? That must've been an interesting scene! Anybody ask what's going on? What story did you tell? Surely you're not surfing the net at work, are you? ;D

None of us have ever done that, have we?

Jim,

Was that you first oil change in 28,000 miles? Who reset your system before?

Got Change,

Are you saying that Z66s have aluminum drive shafts? I think that my rusty steel drive shafts were color coordinated to my Z71 LPM paint.

Check the second issue of the CAFCNA magazine...an article there explains how the moniter works.....look on the home page for a link..

I found this out while getting new exhaust on my Z66...the darn thing is a nice shiny aluminum driveshaft....

Huge too must be about 8" OD..

I've always taken the Av to JiffyLube so someone there knew to reset it. This was the first time they didn't, I guess.
I did read the manual once, a year and a half ago the night before I picked up the Av. I was too excited to retain any of the information though.

z-66 is aluminum because of no rust and light weight, z-71 is steel so it doesn't get dented or bent from being bashed on rocks? ??? ??? ???

Just a purely hypothetical stab

in the dark, but does it sound like reasonable guess?

This site is AWESOME!!

AV turned over 5,500 miles today, and "Change Engine Oil" light came on. My first instinct was NOT to call the local service department, but to check the club site. Of course I found this post on the first search and VOILA the answer is found! First thing I'll be doing when I go to lunch today is . . . (drum roll please) . . . resetting the message.

Thanks to all who have come before me, so you can light the way.

I have a question for all:

I usually don't wait for the idot light to come on, I usually change at 3k miles. I have tried to reset the oil counter but invariably it then comes on 500 to 1k miles later. If I then reset it it will again go to 4k or whatever.

Does anyone know how to reset it even before it comes on?

Half Breed,

The system can be reset prior to the system indicating an oil change is required. Refer to page 6-17 in your Owner's manual for instructions.

Aloha,
Murman
