I bought a 03 Yellow AV a day ago. When I got home I looked at the sales contract and I realize I'm getting raped on the extended warranty. They have this crap called gap protection and executive care MPP. I dont think this is all worth it. They are charging me about 2500 for this. Also they conned me into a teflon paint protectant for 400 and the immobilizer for 400 is all this crap worth it. Can I cancel all this crap...it hasn't been put it yet. HHHEEELLLPP I have to go in tomorrow to give them my down payment. please help.

Nice Av! I would focus on being happy with what you have because there's not much you can do if you signed it. You could try and complain and moan as it might work but since you signed it you are pretty much stuck. Remember next time to read everything carefully!

In MN we have 48 hours to rethink these things. Call your state info line and check. Also any good dealer would not hold you to something that you don't want and has not been recived yet.

You can gripe whenever you want... ;D I would argue with them over those charges. Tell them you don't want that crap. If they tell you it's already on, tell them to take it off or order/find another Av without it. I've seen people get "free" paint protection like that in the past... The dealer put it on all vehicles as he got them and then charged the customer when they bought. They just said that they didn't want it... and that they'd go elsewhere or the dealer could find one without it on and they'd take that one. In the end, the dealer caved to make the sale.

If you're "re-doing" your contract, it sounds to me like you should be able to re-negotiate. What's wrong with your old contract? Like DWAYNE said, most states have 2 or 3 day time limits for discovery of this kind of crap (I think, check your local laws).

Just be firm and don't be afraid to walk away from a deal. When I bought my Av, I knew exactly how much I could get out of my trade-in... At first they were about $2000 low... then they kept coming up... They got to within $50 and tried to stop, telling me that was their final offer (I'd heard THAT before). They said "you'd walk away from this deal over $50?" I said, "You'd let me?" (And I would have). They, of course, caved. ;D

You may be stuck with the "Gap" insurance. This is insurance that is often required by the lender because you will be financing more than the vehicle is worth if the lender had to take it back. In the "bad old days" lenders used to require a down payment of between 15% and 25% to be sure that they would be covered if they had to reposses your vehicle. Since that is not usually required now, they have come up with "Gap" insurance to cover the "gap" between how much you owe on the vehicle and what they can re-sell it for. Remember, as soon as a new vehicle is titled it becomes a used vehicle and drops drastically in value. To avoid paying "Gap" insurance you may have to look for another lender or increase your down payment.

Sorry to be off topic here, but are my eyes bad or did they re-position the onstar antenna to be further back on the drivers side in the picture ???

I don't think that antenna is attached to the vehicle.

Most extended warranty contracts have a back out time period. The dealer cannot make you buy this item. Mine put it into the contract without telling me and when I questioned it they reduced the price and decided I did not need GAP insurance. Like said before, check with your state about time frame to change your mind about the contract. Most dealers will make a change. I never buy additional undercoating, paint protectors etc. because it is pure profit for the dealer.LOL

Definitely a nice look AV. Check your paperwork for the cost of the air scoops on top on the hood. Might be a 1000% markup.

Yes our state has a 3 day reversal law. You CAN change your mind! If the dealer trys to strong arm you tell them you will talk to your laywer and take your business somewhere else!

I went to dealership and told them to take all the crap off...well after story after horror story about how the warranty has helped people I said take it off. He took everything off but then when I looked at the new contract they jacked up my APR from 5.9 to 7.3% He told me that with the warranty they can reduce my APR but without there is now discount on the rate. So with the warranty I would be paying lower finance charges over 5 years. I kept the warranty got rid of the paint and immobilizer. The difference between the two, with and without was 9 bucks more. I'm just glad to have an Avalanche now. Thanks for your input guys.

Two issues.

First : Who is the warranty written by? If it is not the GM warranty it is worthless in my opinion. I have heard and seen first hand manypeople being hosed by 3rd party warranty claims.

Second: The extended policy ploy to get a lower rate is an out and out lie. It is probably a violation of several Federal and state laws. The finance guy makes his money from selling unneeded crap to you. Go online to eloan or peoplefirst and apply for a new car loan. Then take that back to the dealer and have him cancel his financing and cancel the extended warranty. This dealer sounds like a ripoff to me. Also a pure GM extended warranty in cancellable at any time if it has never been used for a prorated amount depending on the life of the warranty. If the Dealer gives you a hard time tell him that you will file a complaint with the Federal trade commission and the state attorney generals office. This sort of behavior realy bothers me. Also go to carsdirect and check the price you paid versus their price.

Otherwise NICE TRUCK!

I got f-in screwed. I just went to carsdirect and the truck configured is 9000 cheaper. Typical...I have the worst luck in the world. Stuff like this make want to drive the truck right through there f-in showroom and give them all the finger

Thats a shame and I am not sure there is anything that you could do about it now......did they say anything about selling it at a $$ amount over the invoice or anything like that? A lot of dealers are selling at $100 to $400 over dealer invoice----if they said anything like that and you found a new one just like it for $9000 less then they just plain lied to you! Get the computer printout from CarsDirect and take it to them. GO clear to the top if you have to mut make them understand that you are NOT HAPPY!!

What you are describing with the warranty and the change in the APR is a dirty dealer trick! Check out more at www.carbuyingtips.com. I got 3.78 from the dealer without an extra warranty.

SOrry to hear about getting screwed! SOunds like a DISHONEST dealership... you should spread the word!! :-[

Yes...I TOTALLY AGREE...I think there should be a section on this site where we give our feedback on dealerships...mabye have it divided into parts of the country like the GTGs are. I think this would be very helpful to many people.

Yes it is a factory hood scoop...they screwed me on that too...599. Oh another thing the sticker was 40000 they discounted it to 38000 with the 4000 rebate they have thats 34000 then with tax and destination and all the bullsh@#$t fees holy moly were right back to 39000. The good news...got an awesome avalanche bad news the dealer is no better than the Iraqis(no offense to any Iraqi-americans) :-X
