Looking at the New Chevy SS models coming out, it's a real dissappointment. The Silverado SS, just doesnt even come close to an SS. The ford lightning, Harley Edition, Dodge SRT-10, are just some of the top competetors.
Then you have the current Monte Carlo SS. with 200HP  Give me a break! With a mere 200 HP with an SS logo is a disgrace. Even adding asupercharger for 2004 wont help that much, because its a V6. Chevy really needs to get in gear if they want to keep the performance market.

Keep in mind that the Silverado SS is AWD - Just think how much fun the Dodge and Ford will be in the snow.

Yup...not as fast as the "others" but all wheel drive, extended cab and a lotta luxury...I think this is what they were goin' for...by the way...faster than the SS454 Truck of the '90's... :B:
I like it...but I would only REALLY be tempted if it were an Avalanche SS!!! :B: (y) ;) :p ;D >:D :) :B: :0:

The Silverado should have been RS, except that Chevy hasn't made a rally sport in tears. Their super sports really aren't all that super. I always thought that SS was primarily for engine performance, and RS for chassis and suspension. jmo.

I would like to see an Avalanche SS/RS.

i voted yes .because there is no substitute for cubic inches or horse power . were is the power?wewrs the cubes .we need v-8s and rwd.

Build one >:D

This is just an opinion.... to me there should not be anything 'for show' (I won't use the word fake) on an SS product.
Putting the 'air scoops' in the front bumper for looks (they don't do anything or go anywhere) just doesn't seem right.

Yeah sure the SS is all wheel drive and all that good stuff, but if I recall, that isnt what made the SS what it was.. It was good ole horsepower, which it seems the other two have left Chevy in the dust in this category..

Lost the "Heritage"? No, I don't think so, but certainly tarnished the image. BTW, saw the first TV ad last night for the new S/C Impala SS.

Chevy's SS models have never really been about being the 'fastest' It usually meant that you got the fastest version of your particular model, but not always the fastest car in it's class..

I mean, look at the 4gen Monte SS. It wasn't exactly a barn burner from the factory. The Impala SS (last model) wasn't really all that fast, but looked cool.

The SS package has always been a sport/appearance package. Isn't the Monte Carlo going to have the 240hp supercharged engine in it for next year? That's nothing to sneeze at and it should be pretty quick.

But, I do agree. There needs to be more "sport" in the SS models from Chevy.

Only Harley has kept its heritage. The quickest way to tell is go out on any lot and listen. When was the last time you heard a new unmoddified vehicle sound like a true muscle car?

It is more than just the sound though. Maybe only Harley and Shelby have kept the heritage alive.

The last GREAT SS CHEVY CARS were the 1966 to 1970 BIG BLOCK CHEVELLES the best the 66 SS 396 375 hp and the 1970 SS 454 LS7 450 hp cars a buddy had a 70 LS7 4 speed Convertable 1 of 200 Made

I agree with you. ?Those BIG BLOCK's sure sounded sweet as their solid lifters began to sing.

Lets not forget about the '69 Camaro SS... they had the big blocks as well and with less weight than the Chevelles. ;D

As far as any of the current SS vehicles goes.... I would have to say yes, Chevy has lost its haritage. We all know what it would take to bring it back... BIG V8s, mean styling, rear wheel drive and yes, I mean no all-wheel drive (if you can't smoke 'em down... whats the point?) and here is the biggest point... make it affordable!!! Not $40,000!

My interpretation of the Silverado SS = a lowered Z-71 with a 6.0 liter and 20 inch wheels... nothing more... nothing less.

I think you may have mis-understood my point. The new Silverado SS, IMHO, is nothing more than a glorified Z-71. I don't think any SS should have AWD.

If I were in charge at GM (I wish)>:D my idea of a Silverado SS would be a single cab/short wheel base with the 496ci... better yet, the 502! >:D

Have you driven one? The SS with AWD is sweet, It handles Like a sports car. Is A thrill To drive and Faster than the Original 454SS of 94.

Burning them Off? Even in a Rear wheel Drive version you couldn't smoke'em off because of Torque Management.

But when you pull up to the line, Traction is the Key!!!

Just my 2c.

Sure AWD may be a neat feature, but I feel the cost/maintanance VS. performance gain is out of whack. As far as handling goes, we have discovered right here on the board that $15 poly bushings make even the monster AV handle pretty well. I feel that the 454SS from a few years back is what the Silverado SS is today... a cool ride, but the numbers lack any respect. I remember a couple of years ago when Chevy was showing off a prototype SS silverado. It was a single cab step side with a hyped up 6.0L..... what happened?

You're right I did.

If it is lowered why go Z71 and not Z66? Do you still get the skid plates?

If so why? speed bumps?

I didn't know you could get a Silverado with a Z66 package. ;D
