Well, I hope this is a real fix and I figured I would share. First, if you're going to have a chronic problem with your vehicle, a heated mirror assembly that keeps buring out is a "good" problem to have, if you know what I mean.

In December they replaced mirror number four in two years. It lasted less than a month, trip number five to the dealer. This time the dealer took my Av for the day wanting to eliminate deeper electrical issues. A good idea.

The dealer informed me that there is a second part for this problem (if your Av has this issue). There is a different mirror for the passenger side now that takes longer to heat up, but runs at the same temperature once heated up. The result is the element does not burn out from the high demand of a rapid heating.

Don't know if this will be the final solution - but if you have an '02 and your eating up your heated mirrors, you might want to check this out...

Chief, thanks for the info!!!

I am on PASSENGER MIRROR #3 in almost 2years (warranty of course) and now my DRIVER mirror is burnt out as of 3 weeks ago!!!

I will pass on this info to my dealer... do you have a part number to aid in my request??

Sorry no part number - I will check with the dealer...

Well at least this puts to rest me wondering what was wrong....

Anyone have a rough repalcement cost for either or both of these?

As opposed to say a chronic "service 4WD" message, I'd tend to agree with you :6:

I've never turned on or seen my heated mirror kick on. I only have about 1000 miles left on my warranty my air con. stopped working and am taking it in on Thurs.. How do you turn on or is it automatic heated mirrors.

The heated mirrors come on when you turn on the rear defroster.

I've only had to use the rear defroster a couple of times for the rear window - when the wind has thrown snow against it. Otherwise, I only turn it on to defrost the mirrors!

-Joe

Guess I need to check as well.. Have never used them.

Noticed mine was out today on the passenger side. Chief or anyone have a part number for the newer mirror? Also is there a TSB on this I could give to my service guy to save some time? Thanks, Jim

new replacement part number for passengers '02 heated mirror.? GM# 88986363 and about $50 List Price for the part.?

the replacment is now without the heated symbol in the upper right corner.

Although this was originally posted in '04 OMG...  I called the dealership to get a quote and they show the part number to be  8898364 with some sort of gel, a backing plate, no turn signal, and no heat icon on the glass..
This part is listed at more than one dealer for $360.00.

They're killing me!!!! :E:
