The cladding on the left rear passenger door is starting to loosen. The adhesive is failing. The dealer thinks I'm an idiot for wanting it repaired. Anyone else having problems with the cladding comming loose? :cautious:

I have no problems yet but I think over time a lot of people will. I have a feeling that this is why they are making the cladding an option. I thought more than glue would be holding it on. I am a bit disappointed.

How is the cladding held on - is it just the adhesive tape? I thought that I remembered screws visable when the doors are open that went into the bottom edge of the cladding.

Hi,

My AVY is less than a month old. I can't find the thread about the bulging out of the cladding just forward of the front wheel wells. I read it a while back and thought nothing of it until I noticed it today...

I pushed it back flush and am thinking of drilling a hole and using a sheet metal screw to hold it flush. Then I could fill the hole with grey epoxy.

Does this sound like a good idea? Otherwise, it looks like the whole bumper will need R&R!!!

Anyone have a fix on this???

Thanx

 I got my drill out (1/2"!!!) and a 1/16" bit ready to ROCK and ROLL!

Do I dare ???

I wouldn't do it - drilling into the sheet metal - another hole, chance for rust - nope - nope - nope - no sir wouldn't do it...

Hi Chief,

This is kinda funny! You're advising me on this project and I'm giving you advice on your oil... LOL.

Well then, what do you suggest to get rid of the bulging cladding syndrome? It looks terrible! I seriously doubt GM will replace my whole front bumper!

 My drill's plugged in!!!

WHHHRRRRRRR! ;D

We have the cladding coming loose on the passenger rear door.
It seems to be the only place, so far, that the cladding is pulling away from the metal.

Can only hope it is the only place.

I KNOW on the bulging front trim thread another post had that very thing done - GM did in fact order and installed another front bumper cover. My flex out a hair also - have from day one and I consider it part of the early adopter tax...

OK, Chief!

But, the bulge is only slight... I can push it flush with my bare hand. I guess I'll complain to Chevy about it. However, I don't think they cover trim under warranty! They're gonna say, "iz normal."

I'm going down to look at the new ones and see if there's bulging on them!!!

Meanwhile, I'll unplug my BIG drill (for now...)!

As I said on the other thread my front bumper also is pushed out. As for the cladding on the rear passenger door mine also started pulling loose. I showed it to the dealer and they replaced it without a hassle. I asked what the panel sold for they told me $94.00.OUCH!!
I hope they don't come loose after the warranty is up.

If the cladding is pulling away from the body, it's as much a defect as if the paint were bubbling. The warranty covers the complete vehicle, and I'd expect the dealer to honor the warranty or I'd start making the rounds of the various consumer affairs agencies - GM, government, media, and private. You paid (or borrowed) something in the neighborhood of $30k for the Av, you shouldn't be shy about expecting it to be done right.

Amen Stend.
At $30k I believe the vehicle should be perfect. On another same note I read the article on the Truckin' SUV project Av. You know the Yellow one. They took off all the cladding and during the process broke many of the clips holding it on. If I remember correctly it was somewhere in the nieghborhood of 150 clips total to remove all the cladding.

Just a thought, but maybe you can try some silicone or other adhesive that is removable and then find something to hold pressure on it while it dries over night. That way you won't have any holes to worry about. :0:

:cry:Mine is coming loose on rear drivers side door. Push it in and it will stay a few minutes and then comes back out. Not bad enough yet, but i guess i will go ahead and report it to dealer so they will document it. That is the only one i have showing any sign of coming loose.

For adults only ...

Check the thread, "Bumper Fit and Finish," for an adhesive that will hold your cladding on FOR GOOD. Don't use it if you ever want it to come off again...

>:D GOO... Is that the way your AV looked before painting? Have you ever seen one with all the cladding off???

Nope. This is from the Truckin magazine article. It is with the cladding off. If you look really carefully and you have a big monitor you can see the holes where the clips held the cladding on at the bottom of the doors.

I had noticed the same spot (LR door) had pulled away from the top leading edge a bit. I don't think the clip was seated well. I pushed it back in and gave it a smack with my fist, and that seems to have done the trick. This is probably a common spot for the defect.. Just getting out of the truck could cause you snag the cladding and pull it loose... My $.02. I'll post if I have any further with it...

Drivers side rear door-leading edge - top of cladding sticking out more than it should. Dealer "fixed". It is better but not as good as the others.

Just noticed this morning when getting gas, then went looking here and found this post.

I have the same problem as many of you. Left rear door (drivers side rear door) leading edge of cladding is pulling away. Pushed it in and it comes back out. Looks like adhesive is pulling away. :(

Intend to call dealer. I guess good to know others having the same problem.

Thanks for the posts.
