I scratched my cladding on the front bumper last weekend :C: which got me thinking about painting the cladding to cover it up. Since the 2003 Avs are supposed to have a darker color cladding anyway, has anyone considered Rhino Lining the cladding :0:? I wonder how it would look and if you could get anything other than black. Just an idea.

I have had some good luck using OOOO steel wool buffing out some scratches out of Kydex which is similar to the cladding.

I have also used a heat gun (carefully!) to heat Kydex and "rub" out somewhat deep scratches. (Or at least make them less obvious.)

Of course, if you get carried away you will melt the plastic but it is fairly thick and would take a few minutes.

I talked to the Line-X dealer here the other day. They would do it if the cladding was primed first. I may buy a couple of those wheel well flairs for a 2500 and have them spray one with a primer and another one without.

Line-X would probably be better because it is applied thinner, dries faster which would allow it to stay on the vehicle. Rhino is do thick in my opinion.

They do have different colors but do not like to use them. They said the colors seen to fade faster which might be OK in the bed of a truck but not something obvious like the sides of a truck.

Hi, I don't know either of the products mentioned above, but one thought. With one being thinner than the other, one might leave the texture and the other cover it. When I painted my cladding I paid a fair bit more for the extra effort of smoothing the finish.

johncw,

Thanks. ?I think if I don't give in and paint the cladding black, I might look into this new sprayed-on chrome process that will be available here soon. ?I will find the link and post it in a bit.
