Cladding Touchup

Do a search for scratch and cladding...not really much you can do from the threads that mention it....

Paint is an idea I never thought of though.

I'm interested in this too. Switching from an S-10 to the Av was interesting. About two weeks after getting the Avalanche, a cut it a little close coming out of the garage and scratched the cladding on the driver's side front bumber. It's not bad, but it drives me crazy. I don't need to replace the front end cladding but would like to treat the scratch.

I haven't looked up any other threads on this, but here is my idea: Heat up the area of the cladding that is scratched and press a peice of sandpaper against the warmed-up plastic. My theory is that the sandpaper (choose a grit that closely resembles the texture of the plastic) will mold the heated plastic. Any comments?

I have welded plastic before. It is not easy and the finish is not pretty. I did successfully weld a cracked dirt bike tank. As for the heat and sand paper idea, it sounds good but I would definitely try it on a spot that wasn't vissible or a piece of cladding that was cheap to replace, first! ;D

Add me to the list of boo boos on cladding. My left front bumper. A crap load to fix.

If I can paint it to cover up until I buy a new bumper cover and brush guard. My fear is if I don't get a the bumper cladding soon it wont match the existing shade of cladding.

Doogie
