Comparing 07 Avalanche and 07 Tundra

Okay, so here is my debate: I am deciding between a new 07 Tundra and a new 07 Avalanche.? For the Tundra it would be an SR5 (non leather, slightly more basic options) double cab and would be around $38k.? The Avalanche could be either an 1LT for about $35k or an LTZ for about $40k -- can't decide quite yet.

I know that the Avalance is more versatile vehicle -- being about to go from a 5' bed to an 8' bed pretty easily and to nearly 10' with bed extender.? The Tundra has a 6.5' bed with about 8' with the bed extender down.?

My debate stems around these points:

- I think the Avalance will be a more versatile car and will function very well
- I think the Tundra will be a better "car" if you know what I mean; I probably SLIGHTLY prefer the look of regular trucks over the avalanche, though I do like the avalanche too.?
- I don't really have anything to tow so the extra power on the Tundra isn't a requirement, but it's nice, you know??
- Honestly, though I own another GM car, I kind of "trust" the Toyota engineering slightly more even though it has a lesser warranty.
- I can get a more upgraded Avalanche for the same price as the "base" SR5 Tundra - leather isn't a big deal for me

What kind of honest, non-biased thoughts do you all have?? :)

No unbiased thoughts? >:D? I build Silverado/Sierra crewcab HD? :B:
Tundra? (n) (n)? ? I am honest, I think the Chevy Duramax is better for towing

I traded a 2000 Tundra for the AVA.? I thought about waiting for the new Tundra, but I liked the AVA and it's versatility since they first came out.
Although I am still very impressed with the build quality and ride of the AVA(8K miles),? I? think the tolerances with the drivetrain leave a little something to be desired.? Then again, I don't know what the Tundra is like.
Overall, very pleased with the AVA and love to drive it.? Gas mileage is probably not a factor between the vehicles.
Happy with my decision. :B:

I would go with the avalanche. I took a test drive on the Toyota offroad course and did not like the way the huge Tundra handled. Also if it helps you out in your decision, the Tundra just received a 4 star front crash rating compared to the GM trucks 5.

Aigile 101l what are you looking for in a AV or any truck what are you going to use it for. If you just want a Truck that OK too if you don't mind the gas mileage, to me you can not compare a AV to a Tundra.

The thing that stuck out when I looked at the specs for the Tundra were the weight (compared to a Silverado not an Av) and the lousy gas mileage. (n) (n)

Why aren't the two comparable?  Both are four door trucks.  In my mind, getting a Silverado was never an option -- either Avalanche or nothing from Chevy.  The design of hte avalanche is great and probably what more cars should and will adopt in the future.  But for NOW, I am trying to decide what car I'll have for hte next several years.

Can you compare a Silverado to a Avalanche, 2 different types of trucks.

I've driven a 07 Tundra and the AV LTZ rides much better in my humble opinion. The 07 Tundra appears to have thinner metal than the AV, but the truck is put together well. The Av seems like it has a thicker gauge sheet metal and it also is put together well. The interior of the Tundra is catering to the working class of owners who need the larger knobs, storage pockets etc for the mechanisms of working within your vehicle. The Av meets some of the requirements for the portability of work. It comes down to the purpose or the uses the truck will endure during the time of ownership and how well the dealership responses to customer complaints. I believe GM is behind Toyota in the servicing war, but otherwise either truck would be a good choice. My choice would be the AV to support GM, it's employees and the number of suppliers and contactors that GM supports throughout the United States which is about a 4 to 1 ratio compared to Toyota.

Baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and Toyota...Nah, don't sound right :D

I was comparing the same trucks last year but I go with the avy. I didn;t like the tundra look last year but the new tundra look though. I like it alot but I already got my avy and I didn't regret it. I though the new tundra will be more fuel efficiency but it doesn't.
One thing that I'm proud of what toyota company does is creating more job for americans than any other auto company in the US. GM doesn't even come close to the number of toyota company create a job opp. for American.

Maybe I took the above partial statement wrong but I believe you are wrong there. True Toyota is building factories in the US because presently that 's where the market is. China and India will surpass North America soon in that category. GM has built new factories in the past 6 years and continues to update other assembly plants to build newer models.
GM puts out data on it's involvement in the US economy and I've seen similiar reports from independent agencies....
GM has 457,000 retirees on pensions .
GM provides health care for almost 1 million people. Find a COMPANY that does that now-a-days. True it's a contract thing and they want to cut the health care due to cost. But it's a cost the government doesn't pick up unless it's a health tax etc. Government has their own problems with Walter Reed and the VA system.
GM's entire production activities support around 1 million Americans.
GM's share of the Gross National Product is four times larger than Toyotas.
Gm's capital investment in the? US equals Toyota, Honda and Nissan combined.

The workers at Toyota, Honda and others get paid what they do today due to what GM, Ford and Chrysler workers get. These automakers are paying workers competitively to produce good quality, avoid Union representation from taking hold etc. As long as management treats all employees fairly and pay a fair wage, unions should not be needed. But it does not work that way. If the wages and benefits of the domestic autoworkers takes a tumble, so will the wages and benefits of the foreign autoworker.

They say GM's domestic content is 82% while Toyota's is 41%.? May not be accurate but GM's content is higher than the others.

So buying GM even though the vehicle might be made outside the US still supports the workers and towns in the US. Toyota still imports up to 50% of their vehicles to the US and it's to their advantage due to some Yen magic.

We recently traded in our '02 Toyota Sequoia for an '07 Avalanche LTZ.  You touched on the point that swayed us to the Chevy:  the GM 100,000 mile, 5-year warranty.  We replaced the Toyota's transmission at 50,000 miles and i would not want that expense again.

other things come into play--where do you live? are you married and have a family? I'm sure you want your friends, or family to have the best ride. i waited for 4 month to test drive the tundra. i drove it 20 miles and went straight to my chevy dealer and bought my 07 av the same afternoon.
also, i heard yesterday that toyota is recalling 400,000 vehicles due to steering problems. that includes last years tundra.

I wouldn't even think of going any where else but  GM .  Every vehicle I ever owned was a GM product.

89 GTA
72 Camaro
76 Camaro
94 Saturn
97 Blazer
02 Impala
05 AVA

I'm not biased.  I hate all non- GM vehicles.  >:D

I just went through this whole debate myself in deciding on a new tow vehicle.? I concluded that the engineering and build quality of the 2007 Tahoe, Avalanche and Suburban are equal to any import I have previously owned (several Toyotas and Volvos).? That, plus the GM warranty, are what persuaded me to buy my first-ever GM vehicle in 2007.? It comes down to your anticipated use of the vehicle and where you can make the best deal.? ?

When I was shopping for my 04 Avalanche, I looked at the Tundra and Titan as well. My brother in law has a Tundra. The Tundra has a Timing belt that has to be changed around 90,000 miles or so. I liked the versatiliity of the Avalanche, and the Digital Instrument Center. Toyata didn't have anything like it. The Titan was to new, I don't like to buy first year vehicles. When towing my enclosed snowmobile trailer, both the Avalanche and the Toyota both get about 10 MPG. The Avalanche tow's it a little easier.
The final issue was price, Chevy was a better buy.

YMMV

Well,my .02 cents in...I had a Lexus LS 400 and my sister has a 2001 Sequoia.  My current ride is a 97 Sierra.  I spent 6K on the Lexus on crap that went out: a/c compressor, p/s pump, had to replace the timing belt....ain't gonna happen to me again!  My sister's Sequoia is just as bad.  Spends a lot of cash just keeping the pig running!  Alas, the Good Lord spoke to me and I pick up my 2007 Ava, Z71 w/morocco tan/ebony leather on 03 April!~  I am quite sure lil sis will follow!  GREAT forum!

:welcome: to the club,

Not sure anyone mentioned this Avalanche attribute in any detail,...

Online internet support or even in person assistance from locaL experienced Avalanche owners. We have a variety of talents in the club, some aren't mechanical in nature.

If you own a Toyota you might get sound mechanical advise here but,...
expect to get a "trade it for a Chevy"  :B:

No doubt my 07 avalanche has the best ride compare to ford F-150. I also felt in with avalanche beacuse the new look and and warranty and such. not to mention I know the owner of the dealership in m hometown. So instead shopping around another chevy dealer in the area I just snagged one in the lot that I like...LT2..got everything except unecessary stuff like rear sensor stuff, Navigation. I don't need all of those as I can get them aftermarket.

I test drove the Tundra and once I got in the 07 AV it was a done deal, the looks, ride, build quality and versatility made me go with the Chevy Avalanche and I have not been disappointed :B:

I dont know why you are comparing the Tundra...the Titan is a way better truck...wins almost all of the truck shootouts...and is far less expensive.  You can get an 07 Titan for $6500 off MSRP around here.  If you dont get the big motor in the Tundra then its a pooch.  And I hate to say this but the 385 torque of the Titan whoops an 5.3L Aves 335tq.

With that being said it is a real tough choice between the Ave and the TItan Crew cab.  You can get a nicely optioned 4x4 crew cab for well less than $30k...Aves cost big bucks to option out...and they are assembled in Mexico.

Im right on the fence...had a check in had to buy a titan yesterday...my ordered 07 Ave wont be here until mid April...but decided to wait...GM warranty and much better gas mileage were the reasons.

cant have ambers in a toy and look at the mods you can do oh were is everyones maners

welcome aboard :welcome:
