Confused About Air Intake

Today after so much confusion with this issue I was just about to order my Volant kit when I came across a picture of a K&N and got stuck again, wich do you prefer and why.

I have installed the volant kit. This is probably the best built of the three (volant,UPD, K&N). What I like about the Volant/don't care for about the K&N is the air box. The Volant comes with a completely enclosed air box that houses the cone-shaped filter. The K&N relies upon a rubber seal between a partial box and the hood of your truck to enclose the filter. The Volant is pretty quiet, where I've heard some say the "The K&N sounds like it is trying to suck your hood into the engine."
The main difference between the volant and the UPD is the filter type. The UPD uses a flat K&N filter, where the Volant uses a cone shaped filter, which gives more surface area to the filter. I do think the UPD smoked intake tube is pretty awesome looking, though!!
These are just my personal observations and opinions only, so take them with a grain of salt.. ;D ;D

I have the Volant kit and I am very happy with it. It is well made, a good fit and is quiet. There has been much written about aftermarket airbox/filter combinations. Try a search using Volant, UPD or FIPK. Go back at least 200 days and check 200 responses. You should find a lot of useful info. Good luck and good reading!

We need another UPD Group Buy. Think they'd do it? If not, I'll just pay "retail" soon......

I am new to this site (and to the truck), but has anyone done any dyno results to see if any of these units actually increase horsepower? Perhaps there are already threads that answer my question and I have not seen them.
I have a Honda S2000 and as it turns out, the stock air box is just as efficient as the aftermarket units.

For the last group buy, I put up a thread to see how many people would be interetsed in a UPD. Once I had several resposnse I called UPD to let them know about the interest.

They came back and said once they get 15 orders they will give the group buy rate and ship.

Any one want to handle the next UPD group buy?

If anyone who has a 8.1L is planning on going for a UPD, beware of the K&N filter they ship with the intake. The filter itself is not rated for the 8.1L motor, as per K&N. Other than this issue, I've been happy with the carbon fiber UPD intake.

my k&n went right in , and is a little loud uphill, but her in fla we aint got no hills. i think they all give a little more airflow and a cleanable filter, and i have put a little air deflector to force more cool air towards the upper right fender area would like to see a before and after chassis dyno with any av club members truck and not some magazine article claim. K&n sounds good from 4500 to 5800 and i listen to it quite often!!!!!!

Count me in for a Carbon Fiber or a Smoked UPD when the Group Buy comes together (I'll make myself decide by then  ).

Found this article, BTW, foolin' around on the Net. I'm just passing it along, so please don't flame me if you don't like what is says (argues for UPD/Volant type vs K&N). And probably, by implication, the TB bypass as well. And if you think there are errors in it, please share....
