GUEST
hey fellas,

just recently, i converted the truck for the first time to haul a sofa, tables (x3) and junk for a buddie of mine. was really cool, and had people  staring  from all directions in the city and freeway.

so, what's your story? what did you convert for (besides a dollar ;) ), and what did you haul?

;D ;D ;D

I took a ride this past weekend to help out a buddy of mine...he was going to pick up brand new kitchen cabinets etc.....he's has a pathfinder (not much room there ;) so I volunteered the Av...

Made the entire move in just one trip....I've gotten my money's worth. ;D

I do this at least once a week. I mainly do this for work.

1. Over the Xmas holidays I carried my bother 10' Xmas tree to his house.
2. Last week I had to carry 3 large spools of fiber cable and 9 large spools of copper cable. For this one I had to even remove the window to get them to all fit.
3. Most of the other times I can keep the tops on and just drop the midgate.

I hauled some furniture the other day. Only due to the old workhorse S-10 is down for a head job. The Av is mainly the wifes vehicle and if it gets scratched she'll kill me!!!! lol

Only one "big haul" so far, and it didn't require (nor would you want it) dropping the midgate. We hauled a half-ton of pea gravel for a backyard landscaping project. Drove like a champ with all the excess weight.

I've had to convert twice, once to move a ladder and the other to help a friend move a 12' roll of carpet (mid-gate down, last 2 panels removed, carpet resting on the closed tailgate).

We are putting in new floors at the house, so had to go to Home Depot to buy some baseboard moulding strips. Found out the size I need comes in 16'x3" strips. Needed to carry those long boys home in the 'Lanche.

Downed the midgate, left tailgate up. Slid those strips all the way into the front of the cabin, between the two bucket seats, into the passenger floorboard. Only a couple, maybe 3, feet were left sticking out of the back of the top of the tailgate. Wife kept a hand on them to keep them steady, and off we went.

NO problem.

Just traded in a 1997 'Burban, and would have played HELL trying to fit those strips into that thing as easily and securely (without any tie downs) as the 'Lanche managed it.

Definitely a Versatile Vehicle. Passed test #1 with FLYING colors.........

Made it out to Home Depot this weekend and managed to fit all the gutters I needed for the house among other things....this thing is great! ;D

When I read the title of this topic real fast, it made me think that someone turned their Av into a truck for hauling garbage as a business. I was quite relieved to find out that it was only a "temporary" conversion! ;)

2 6' ladders, ice chest, 2 step ladder, 4 cases of beer.

It was Mardi Gras and well I needed the stuff at the parades.

Another time I hauled dining table with 8 chairs and some boxes to mini storage for friend.

New water heater from Home Depot, Last two panels out.
Old water heater to the dump. Under the panels on its side.
Christmas tree on top of the panels, too much merchandise locked in the back.(shopping trip at Christmas)Great feature.
Bales of straw. now that was a pain as it clogged my drains. Maybe I shouldn't have tried to clean it out with a leaf blower.
42" tool chest and top - all panels out.

I just removed the carpet from my living room and took it to the city dump...I could have done it covered, but I took all the panels off...THEN...went to Home Depot, and loaded it up with enough Pergo to do the job, all the trim 8' sections, and all the underlayment....All in the Northwest in the winter...and that means RAIN, and lots of it...not a thing got wet, and it was all locked up too!

I love this thing!

I've had my Av for about 6 months, but the first time I converted (for a good reason) was about two weeks after purchase. A friend needed to pick up a piece of furniture that he had purchased and needed a friend with a truck. I was happy to volunteer!

The piece that he bought was a dining table with chairs. There just wasn't enough room in the back without dropping the midgate. But it all fit after doing that.

My greatest kick was the guys loading the truck going and grabbing other folks in the warehouse to come look at the truck. I probably had 10 people loading a simple dining table and chairs in the truck just so they could get a good look at it.

Since then, that scenario has repeated numerous times as people really like to see it opened up. I love to drive around with the tailgate down and the midgate open. It is always entertaining to me to watch the men in the cars behind me trying to explain to their wives/girlfriends how the midgate works. I know they are doing it because I can see their hands demonstrating how it closes as they are talking. Great Fun!!

A 27" TV got me!!!...I walked out of Best Buy with a new 27" TV and it was raining pretty hard. As I looked at this thing in the store...I thought "it's gonna be close"... got out to the truck put the tail gate down...thru it up on the tail gate and missed it by an 1 1/2" -- too tall to fit under the hard covers. So I put the seats down thinking I might be able to get it inside the rear doors. Nope...missed it by 2". In short had to take the hard covers off take the TV out of the box in the bed carry it around and set it in the back seat (seats down) then strap it down. I bet people with Mini-Vans and other SUV's got a good laugh watching this event unfold. :D :-X

ABOUT A MONTH AFTER GETTING THE AV, I CONVERTED AND HAULED A SOFA AND LOVESEAT FOR MY FUTURE IN-LAWS. WORKED GREAT, SOFA FIT IN WITH TAILGATE UP AND THEN LAID THE LOVESEAT UPSIDE DOWN ON TOP OF IT. NOTHING NEEDED TO BE TIED DOWN. HOWEVER I DID KEEP IT UNDER 80 MPH. LOL
I DID SAY THE STUFF BELONGED TO MY FUTURE IN-LAWS.

HAVE HAD MINE A ONE MONTH TODAY AND JUST BOUGHT A NEW LAWN MOWER PROBABLY JUST AN EXCUSE TO HAUL SOMETHING BUT I DID ?;D NEED A NEW ONE!http://www.toro.com/home/mowers/recycler/20017.html HAD NO PROBLEMS PUTTING IT UNDER THE HARD COVER IN THE BOX I WAS VERY SUPRISED & SO WAS THE EMPLOYEES ;D,HAD THREE HOME DEPOT EMPLOYEES HELPING AND GAWKING! THE ALL WERE SUPRISED IT FIT. ON A BAD NOTE MY WIFE DROVE THE AVALANCHE TONITE BAD BAD MISTAKE I MIGHT BE DRIVING A CAMRY TOMORROW     .

Last weekend I hauled the keg, 3 burlap sacks of oysters, a fold-up table, 2 coolers of ice, a bottle of gas and a cooker to my nanny's little brother's 21st birthday party. I left the tailgate open and the cargo lights on whie I blared cd's until the wee hours in the night as I stemed oysters for the kids. I don't know who had more fun, the kids partying or me hauling the necesities for the party.
To add to that, my wife borrowed the truck on Sunday to haul 14 bails of pine straw. ;D ;D ;D

Dustman - in the future you must invite all club members to any party you throw. You can charge a cover - but the CAFC gets a 20% kick back...

;)

Will do!

My wife has commandeered the Av again to pick up more pine straw. I hope that she's not getting too used to driving my truck instead of her own.

Are there any more members in the southeast Georgia area?

i convert it at least once a week. I haul supplies for my resturant.a whole lot off big boxes fit in there with that midgate down.

I work in the marketing department of a book publisher and regularly haul cases of books. This doesn't require a conversion, but it's nice to have the lockable bed without any windows into it as the boxes of merchandise are sometimes in there for a week or more.

Saturday I converted it to haul 7 ftX 5ft chain link gates. Even though the 5 ft width wouldn't let them lie flat in the bed, they fit easily at an angle, to the amazement of a guy next to me in a Sport Trac ;D
