I have HPTuners, and am looking to lower operating temps.? I have only glanced at the programming, and need to figure out how to lower the temps.? I am willing to switch thermostats too.....

2007 Avalanche LT 5.3 liter auto....stock

Thanks!

In my searches these are the #'s I have found.

stock thermo

Fan #1 on-202
Fan #1 off-197

Fan #2 on-207
Fan #2 off-202

160* thermo

Fan1 on temp = 184
Fan1 off temp = 175

Fan2 on temp = 194
Fan2 off temp = 185

:welcome: to the Club and the dark side (HPtuners)

Thanks!  Glad to be here!

I got HPTuners to tune the Z28.  Exspensive, but worth the money now that I own 2 chevys!!!

Anyone else?

Lower temp thermostat will not guarantee lower running temps. The engine will find equilibrium temp later but it will still run over 160F. Things like bigger radiator, fan, oil cooler and tranny cooler will help cooling too.

First  :welcome:

Second, ItsStopher is a pretty smart guy.  You may be able to bring your temp down by a couple of degrees with changes to your tune but you will have to change thermostats to get them much lower than stock.

I have a 160 therm and it still runs 178 (according to HPTuners) with my stock fan.  I'm going to E-fans controlled by the PCM soon and may knock that down a hair.

Also a bit of advise, I first tried a 180 therm and there was NO difference in the operating temp.

I run the 160 Thermo with the LS1 Efans and my temps run right between 177-187... with the summer hitting 90+ degree temps out side i am seeing radiator temps of 184-194 max in heavy traffic...

First, welcome.... :welcome:

Secondly, the 160 degree thermo just opens at 160*.... the temps will run based on the efficiency of the entire system after that. It has been my experience running for two years with HP Tuners, LS1 Efans, and a 160* thermo, that you will see 178-180* at best with our setup. That is in 100* Florida Sunshine or 30* Florida winters..... Bob is right on the 180* thermo. It opens at 180* and the effieciency of the system after that lets temps hover about 190-200*..only a slight improvement at best...

I tune first fan at 180* with 80 mph disable, second fan at 190* and when I turn the truck off, if temps are over 190, I run fans for 200 seconds..... Both fan cuttoffs are programmed 5* below their enables....

Go with the 160* and tune setpoints in HPT.....
