When I was young and traveling, for those long road trips we would count the number or VW?s we met on the road. Well, for entertainment see how many GM trucks you can count in one day on the road with a DRL out. It is amazing. I don?t think the AV is exempt from this one since it is the same bulb. I have replaced mine with silver stars. Hope they last longer than factory. Go ahead, post largest count in one day.

yea, all the company trucks at my work have one or both out. lol... thats how the boss decides its time for a new fleet. There a real pain to get to, also.

they are not that hard to get to. i just messed with an '03 Tahoe the other day. the Tahoe belongs to a friend who retired from the military some months ago. he works out of town now. his family still resides here in town. his wife had a problem with their Tahoe so i took a look at it for her. while checking it out i noticed that the DRL was blown just like the rest of the full-size Chevy's i have seen on the road. turns out it came back on after i attempted to remove it from the socket. i re-installed it. worked fine after that. i think either the filament is broken, or the contacts on the bulb base are not making good contact in the socket.
my wifes' truck suffered from a bulb that had a broken filament. it would come on when the filament was in the "closed" position. but if the filament was not making contact the bulb would not work. after hitting the lense a couple of times to get the bulb to work i decided to replace it.

The guys that switched over to amber seem to not have problems........
Not everyone!

My first set of ambers is already down the drain... One day I noticed they were not working. Turned out one was burned out, and the other had some corroded contacts in the socket causing intermittant operation (just like PUNISHER found.) I cleaned up the sockets, got some replacment bulbs (this time I got the long life version which I couldn't find the first time) and installed them with some bulb grease to prevent further corrosion.

So far, so good...

Right - get 3157 NALL -- LL for Long Life...

How about some dielectric grease to keep the bulb contacts clean and corrosion free? Would it help?
Absolutely! It sure can't hurt.

I had some corrosion on mine, and used the grease the second time around. So far, so good.

Saw one of the few Avs around here with Ambers on Sunday and one was burned out. Or is it "burnt" out? ??? Naw....burned.

Thats why GM started using the 4114 bulbs, they were developed to replace the 3157 in the hope that they last longer. All of the 04 units I have seen have the new #

Will the 4114 plug in directly or is it a different base?

It's physically identical to the 3157 as far as I can tell. Same socket and everything.
The amber replacement is the same, so I know they are interchangeable.

Good info, Thanx!
After this post, it seems even more yet out there with a DRL out!

The 4114 is on my 03' as well (Born - July 03'). Slyvania makes a 4114NALL (Natural amber Long Life, but it is sold directly to Ford only - or that's what Sylvania advised when I ask if there was an amber 4114 bulb.) I am trying to find out which Ford model so I can order LL Ambers for my Avy.
