I searched the forum and noticed that 2 problems I have with my 2002 avalanche z71 have been mentioned here...I have a slight chirp in my av and I can not place where it is coming from...I read a post where it described the same noise in the dash...is this something I need the dealer to fix?
Also I have a knock in my steering wheel when I make right turns. When I brought it to the service dept, the man told me he knew exactly what the problem was (something with the steering column) and itt would be no problem...well they couldn't recreate it and it still does it! I need to bring it back this week; between the chirp and that it drives me crazy? Any suggestions on what I can do? Thanks!!!!

have the same problems,a strange noise comming from dash and sun roof area but only during rain, still trying to pinpoint that one
Steering knock it a defective grease used to lub the iner and outer shafts of the steering colum,my dealer re greesed mine with chevys replacement grease and it's fine now however they could not duplicate the problem also and i gave them hell right from the top ( called GMAC and told them i would trade in for a ford) and some how they got luck and fixed it blind. Good rule of thumb is never let up on your dealer.

My chirp is coming from the engine compartment. I'm guessing it's belt noise, but it never seems to happen when I'm at the dealer :cautious: I notice it most when I decelerate and sit idling. When I accelerate it goes away.

As a side note, I had a noise which I though was coming from the dash. It turned out my brake cable was rubbing against the frame. They rerouted (?) the brake cable and fixed it down. No problems now!

The knock in the steering is a problem they have had since 99.
My 2000 Z71 and 2001 Yukon both had the mid steering link replaced. Now they just relube it since GM did not put a grease zert they have to pull it apart to relube..
The chirping on my 2002 was the fuel line where it came up behind my engine over to the manifold. It rubbed against the fire wall sometimes. They have the same problem on suburbans.
The mechanic reached over behind the plastic cover of the manifold and bent the fuel line out and it has never reoccured. That maybe your culprit. Mine was more of a knocking noise, but something to check out.
