Cruise Control

Has anyone had any problems with the cruise control. Mine just died and I haven't had time to take it to the dealer.

Check your fuses first. I have not had any problems HOWEVER I know Fish had issues with his when he put in LED tail lights. Seems somehow the voltage on the lights is tied to cruise control operation. Those are my two recommendations before going to the dealer...

Stepping on the brake turns off the cruise....maybe LED tail & stop lamps have an effect on it.

Chief is right... I encounted similar problems when installing LED tail lights. (all 4) Have to "uninstall" when I take long trips...

I encountered this problem as well. What I found works is to run the original bulbs in series with the LEDs. (I tucked the original bulbs in behind the light mounts, so you couldn't see them.) Since LEDs take very little power, combining them with the standard bulbs makes the truck think that everything is fine. Of course, if you want a more elegant solution, there are companies that make dummy loads that you run in series.

I was at Autozone the other day looking at LED tail light bulbs.

I can't remember what brand they were but...

There were 2 styles of 3157 bulbs...

The regular 3157 LED Bulbs and 3157CK bulbs. The latter was specified for GM Pickup/SUV's 99 and up. I think they are made with a built in resistor just to address that problem.

Using the bulbs with the resistor would also eliminate the need to change to a different turn signal flasher.

Allright boys & girls... I figured out how to eliminate the failure of loosing your cruise control when installing both brake tail lights with the LED 3157-waffle style bulbs:

This works! (as weird as this sounds)

1. Simply wire a 2nd bulb (i used the original bulb) to the Left Rear wire housing connecting a. the blue wire & b. the brown wire, to both ends of the 2nd bulb. (just wrap them in and tape)

It works! Now, I can use my cruise control and my DVD override!

i really considered getting the LED bulbs before i read this post. i do not think i will fool with them now. i do not want to rig anything up just to replace a bulb that already works.

Took AV to the dealer. They replaced the "cruise control module" Everything ok now.

Every once in a while when I start my AV, the cruise control light on the dash will flicker. My cruise control will not work at all until I turn the AV off and start it again. No one knows why this happens and I can not figure out how to make it happen n order to find a fix. Just one of those random deals I guess.

Is there a way to get these LED lights to work the way they are supposed to without jerry rigging them ? I think they would look good but I am not sure I am willing to put up with the hassel of rigging stuff.

LEDs take very little power so your options are to either find a company that manufactures LED lights with built in resistors or other required electronics or try to find an LED light with as many LEDs as possible. I am considering purchasing a taillight I found online with 24 LEDs on it. That may be enough to draw enough load to trick the truck into thinking it is not burned out.

Another option is building your own LED lights, which a friend is attempting for his Mustang. He said that he will build some for me as well to test. We'll see.

Now that I think of it
If the LEDs make the cruise control act up making it think it has no bulb or burned out bulb, due to low power requirement, Does this mean that when one of my tail light bulbs go out , the cruise control won't work ?!?!?
