Custom Conversions

I am new to this forum and would like to solicit some feedback from current AV owners. I am in the market to purchase a new AV (I will probably wait for the "04 model) and I wanted to know if any of you own an AV that had a custom conversion? Recently I have seen a handful of these custom AV's on the road and was interested if someone like Regal Customs, Midwest Vans, or Legend Customs is doing conversions. These customs were sharp! American Racing wheels, aftermarket exhaust, and painted body side moldings. I hesitate doing a conversion on my own since it may void warranty and I know that many custom conversions come with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Please help!

Be careful with conversions. Whie some are very nice and very well done, most tend to emphasize plush and not durability (sp?). I have seen some late model conversion vans that had worn out interiors after just a few years on the road. Check the re-sale value of most conversion vans and you will find that the 3- 10K extra dollars that was spent to get the fancy van is not reflected in the value of a used van. While there may be some question about the fit and finish of GM interiors, as a rule the materials used tend to hold up well.
Hope that helps.

Sounds like what you are seeing is some of our members with the Mods in full bloom. Many have painted the cladding, put on sail panels, amber lights etc. You can find all that info here on the site. That is the beauty of this group, they will help all your dreams come true when it comes to MODS. Seems I had some extra money before I started reading these threadsl, must have dropped it along the way. Still happy though. :p

I'm not sure this is even offered.....if it is, I would'nt waste my money. I think it was said already. The 2-3 grand extra probably won't help out in your resale. That, and it's a whole lot more fun to do all the conversions (MODS) yourself!!!!!

As Cabby Blue said, you are liekyl looking at members own efforts.
If you want to look at some possible mods, you can click on the picture trail link below to go to my picture trail site and then lok at the album called 'Spring 2003'. There are pictures there of specific mods.

I think you would need to give us a better idea of what you mean by customised. Painted cladding is an option that some dealers we adding straight off the showroom floor and many members here would call a custom exhaust a mod and not really customisation. So we really need a better idea of what you are looking for.

Most custom conversion vans sell for less than their stock counterparts because they can't get them off their lot. About 4 years ago I looked at a full-size hi-top Chevy conversion van. They were selling it for $22K!

I noticed in the last couple of years that most dealers don't sell conversion vans anymore. They just aren't profitable, and now Chevy sells its own customized Express van with captains chairs and 2 ceiling mounted TVs.

The Dealers here still sell quite a few Custom Conversion Silverados and Vans. Their quite apt to use Base models for the conversions and even a Base model Av is pretty pricey. Then by the time you added the Conversion markup I think you'd be looking at a pretty small customer base.

personally I wouldn't buy another already customized vehicle.....i used to own a 94 F-150 flare side mark III and dont get me wrong it was a beautiful truck and cost alot more than the average F-150, but when time to trade they would only give me what an average F-150 was going for..... :D:FORD

buy a regular AV and mod on!

CAN'T wait to get one of my own!

Do the mods yourself, farm them out piecemeal to different shops, or hook up with your local Av chapter for help. Avoid paying the overhead of a previously customized Av sitting on a lot.
