Dealer Demo, Help On Offer!!

Well I am finally at the point to get an AV. the picking is getting slim where I am at but I have found 2 in a dealer's lot but they are both dealer demos. They are both Z-71 with graphite leather with memory seats, has the sunroof package and convience package and running boards. One is white and has 6.5k miles on it with a build date of 8/01 the other is orange and has 4.5k miles on it with a build date of 3/02.

Of course they say the will be more flexible on the price since it was a dealer demo but even getting the vehicle at invoice on a truck with this much mileage I think is too much since some members are even getting brand new 2003 at or near invoice before the rebate.

What do you all think is a fair price to offer before the rebate is applied.

The only sticking point now is my highly depreciated Ford mustang that I need to trade in as well.

Please let me know what you all think is a fair price to offer. Thanks

PS I want an AV real bad but I will wait if a decent deal cant be done.

This might just be me... but I would have some concerns about buying a demo truck. If a dealer gave me an Av for the weekend to evaluate it... then I would give it a thrashing!! Wouldn't you? If you do buy a demo, I should think you MUST get 15% off invoice and I'd be getting the extended warranty for free as well.

Good luck!

If you live near OKC, dealer here sells a base model for $23,488. That is $1554 below dealer invoice. I took them up on it. Of course they try to switch you to a Z-71. As far as dealer demos go, you can buy a new one for the same price. Sell your used car yourself. Find the one you want, list all the options, tell the dealer you will think about it, go to Edmunds.com, find the invoice price. Call the salesperson with a offer of invoice less the $2500. rebate and tell them to check with the manager and call you back and that you are ready to buy. Stick to it and look at a couple of dealers, they will sell to you. Good Luck :B:

I think the kind of demo avalanche he is talking about is the same kind as mine. The service manager drove my avalanche before I purchased it. I think the service manager took pretty good care of mine while he had it. I would find out what kind of demo it was first. I got mine for 31k and it had every option. Now i'm sure I didn't get the best deal cause I know they could tell I wanted it bad. But I think I got a good deal. ???

I was looking at a demo for a short period. I was not offered a good deal on the vehicle. The fact is one of those trucks has a build date one year older than the truck I am driving now. For some reason some dealers do not offer good deals on demo units. I would be leary of the truck with a build date of 8/01.

Good luck!

I do believe it is a service manager vehicle but I will definitley check. Did you get your vehicle for 31k with or without rebate applied.

As for selling my mustang, I am trying but no bites so far. I am selling it below blue book, NADA, and Edmunds. I just want to get out of the mustang so it is one less thing for the dealer to haggle with.

My TOD was 31k, I too sold my Passport to another person. The dealership wanted to make a killing on me trading it in. They offered $3000 for it, I sold it for $7800. I had to eat the price of the Passport for a while but got out more ahead than I thought I would.

On the white av that had a production date of 8/01 I did notice some rust on the brake and accel pedal. Can anyone think what might have caused this and if this is a major problem? It does not have a roof rack.

Be carefull with the demo see if you can use it as a demo before you buy, another thing, I read once on the web that even if your buying just one car you can go to the fleet sales dept. remember this guy works on salary not comision, try to convince him that you feel more confortable dealing with him, so you have a better chance on getting a good deal (you have nothing to lose making this phone call) also as far as your mustang you can do what I did get your sales man to go as low as you can (do not mention your Mustang) when you see that he gave you the lowest price THEN tell him you have a trade in (again nothing to lose)

The big sticking point I had was my trade. If you can sell the Mustang, do it !!!!!! No matter what they tell you, you will still just be giving it to them if you trade. You are always going to get taken when you trade, it just depends on how much you are willing to give up. Good Luck !!!!!!

When I wne to buy my Av, I also had a choice of a service manager demo, but the dealer was only willing to go $600 less than a new one. I ended up with a new Z-71, in my color choice (Indigo Blue Metallic) fully loaded, without 7K miles extra. I would go for a new one if you can, you have no idea how hard those miles are that someone else has put on the Av.

Ya, I think I will keep looking. My wife doesnt like the orange and the white one looks to used. I think it will be best to just get a new and spend the extra money. Over the course of the loan, the monthly payments will not be that much higher.

Thanks for everyones input. Hopefully soon I will have an Av.

Trade-in's don't ever seem to be a good idea, unless you really don't want to hassle with selling your car.

A dealer offered $500 for my wife's Saturn, and we just sold it for $3,750.

Pays to do the dirty work yourself, IMHO.
